The IDB Group is a community of diverse, versatile, and passionate people who come together on a journey to improve lives in Latin America and the Caribbean. Our people find purpose and do what they love in an inclusive, collaborative, agile, and rewarding environment.
About This PositionThe IDB Group is looking for an active graduate student to be hired as an intern under the Consultant modality.
The 2026 Summer Internship Program is a competitive paid opportunity, based in Headquarters, for university students from member countries to learn about development work and corporate management of the Bank, and to acquire work experience at the professional level through on-the-job learning.
What you’ll do Responsibilities- Producing practical, publish-ready content on (i) AI adoption for SMEs, (ii) cross-border business opportunities (LAC–USA/Europe/Asia), and (iii) access to finance. Using AI tools to accelerate research and drafting, the intern will deliver concise explainers, checklists, and topic briefs aligned with Connect Americas’ voice, ensuring all key claims are validated and actionable for SMEs.
- The intern will also be responsible for designing and testing lightweight prototypes that address user needs in trade, FDI, and public procurement journeys. This includes translating needs into simple user flows, building quick demos with AI-assisted development tools, gathering feedback from internal stakeholders, and documenting recommendations for product prioritization.
- In addition, the intern will identify and propose automation opportunities across selected workflows (e.g., trust badges, application review, legal verification checks, reporting, and external integrations). They will map “as-is/to-be” processes and build small proof-of-concept automations or scripts (with human-in-the-loop approvals), documenting SOPs so the team can maintain and extend them.
- Finally, the intern will build repeatable scripts to collect, clean, and structure datasets of companies participating in public procurement across LAC from available open sources and APIs. Outputs will follow a standardized schema and include documentation of sources, methodology, limitations, and an update process for future refreshes.
- Education:
An active graduate student in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Systems, Economics/Business Analytics, or a related field, with strong applied skills in data analysis and rapid product prototyping from an accredited University. The graduation date should be after the Internship period. - Languages:

Result-driven, collaborative, innovative, client-oriented, strong communicator, self-motivated, eager to learn, and excellent at time management. - Technical skills:
The ideal candidate has hands-on experience using AI tools to accelerate research, content production, and lightweight software development (e.g., ChatGPT / Claude / Gemini for drafting and synthesis;
Perplexity for source discovery;
Notebook LM for working with large internal documents;
Git Hub Copilot or Cursor for coding; Python + pandas for data processing; and low-code automation tools like Zapier/Make/n8n). Familiarity with API integration, basic web app prototyping (e.g., Streamlit, Next.js, or Retool), and responsible AI practices (privacy, bias awareness, proper citation/attribution, and human-in-the-loop review) is expected. Comfort translating technical concepts into practical guidance for SMEs and non-technical audiences.
