Job Description
IT Technician – Office Relocation & Workstation Deployment (Contract – Washington, D.C.)
Position OverviewThe IT Technician will be responsible for supporting a full office building move, ensuring that all end‑user technology is safely relocated, properly installed, and fully operational in the new environment. The role focuses on workstation deployment, hardware setup, and on‑site technical support before, during, and after the move. The ideal candidate is detail‑oriented, organized, and comfortable working in a fast‑paced, logistics‑heavy environment.
Public Trust Clearance is required.
- Disconnect, label, and prepare desktops, laptops, monitors, peripherals, and desk phones for transport.
- Safely move IT equipment to designated locations within the new office space.
- Reconnect and configure workstations according to seating charts and deployment plans.
- Verify that all devices power on, connect to the network, and meet baseline configuration standards.
- Configure user profiles, network settings, printers, and application access as needed.
- Troubleshoot hardware, software, and connectivity issues during and after the move.
- Assist with VoIP phone setup, docking stations, and multi‑monitor configurations.
- Ensure all equipment is properly inventoried and documented.
- Work closely with IT leadership, facilities teams, and external vendors to ensure a smooth transition.
- Follow established move plans, timelines, and checklists.
- Provide on‑site support to employees during move‑in and first‑day operations.
- Communicate progress, issues, and risks to project managers and IT supervisors.
- Inspect equipment for damage before and after transport.
- Maintain clean, organized work areas during setup.
- Assist with decommissioning old equipment and preparing surplus hardware for storage or disposal.
- Ensure compliance with company security policies during all phases of the move.
- Experience in IT support, desktop support, or workstation deployment.
- Strong understanding of Windows 10/11 and/or macOS environments.
- Familiarity with networking basics (Ethernet, Wi‑Fi, VLANs, IP addressing).
- Ability to lift and move equipment up to 40‑50 lbs.
- Excellent troubleshooting and customer service skills.
- Ability to work extended or flexible hours during move windows.
- Public Trust Clearance or willingness to obtain one before starting.
- Experience supporting office relocations or large‑scale hardware deployments.
- Knowledge of ticketing systems (e.g., Service Now) and asset management tools.
- Certifications such as CompTIA A+, Network+, or equivalent experience.
- On‑site role with significant physical activity and equipment handling.
- Work may occur during evenings or weekends depending on move schedule.
- Fast‑paced environment requiring adaptability and strong teamwork.
Contract position, Washington, D.C., fully onsite.
Pay and BenefitsPay range: $20.00 – $25.00 per hour. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on job classification and length of employment. Benefits for this temporary role (subject to change) may include:
