Cybersecurity, Systems Engineer
The Software Architect provides enterprise and solution architecture leadership in support of Department of Justice (DOJ) mission systems. This role is responsible for designing secure, scalable, and compliant software architectures that meet federal cybersecurity, data, and cloud modernization requirements. The architect works closely with government stakeholders, program managers, developers, cybersecurity personnel, and operations teams to ensure technical solutions align with DOJ IT strategy, Zero Trust principles, and federal mandates.
Key Responsibilities Architecture & Technical Leadership- Design and document enterprise, system, and application architectures for DOJ mission and business systems
- Define target state architectures, transition plans, and technical roadmaps
- Lead architecture review boards (ARBs) and technical design sessions
- Provide hands‑on guidance to development teams on architecture patterns and best practices
- Establish reference architectures, reusable components, and design standards
- Architect solutions in AWS Gov Cloud, Azure Government, or on‑prem environments
- Lead cloud migration and modernization efforts (re‑platform, refactor, containerization)
- Design high availability, disaster recovery, and performance‑optimized systems
- Implement Dev Sec Ops pipelines and infrastructure‑as‑code patterns
- Ensure architectures comply with:
- DOJ Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs)
- NIST SP 800‑53 / RMF
- Zero Trust Architecture (ZTA)
- FISMA, FedRAMP, and DOJ policy requirements
- Integrate ICAM, MFA, PKI, and role‑based access controls
- Support ATO packages, system security plans, and security assessments
- Design data architectures, APIs, and system integration patterns
- Implement secure data exchange across DOJ and interagency systems
- Define data governance, metadata, and audit logging strategies
- Translate mission needs into technical architectures and implementation plans
- Advise government leadership on technology selection and trade‑offs
- Produce briefings, white papers, and architectural decision records (ADRs)
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field (Master’s preferred)
- 10+ years of software engineering and architecture experience
- Demonstrated experience architecting secure federal systems
- Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP – Gov environments preferred)
- Strong knowledge of:
- Microservices and service‑oriented architectures
- Containerization (Docker, Kubernetes, Open Shift)
- API design and integration patterns
- Dev Sec Ops and CI/CD pipelines
- Zero Trust and ICAM
- TS clearance
- Prior experience supporting DOJ, FBI, DEA, or other law‑enforcement systems
- Experience with FedRAMP High environments
- Relevant certifications, such as:
- AWS/Azure Solutions Architect
- CISSP
- SAFe Architect or equivalent
