The Agile Team Facilitator (ATF) contractor in Washington, DC will support the establishment and stabilization of Agile, flow‑based working practices for a major cross‑functional business initiative within client publications. This initiative involves redesigning a complex process and requires coordination across multiple vendors, teams, and business stakeholders. The ATF will report into the Transformation department, and is responsible for creating clarity, maintaining flow, coordinating work, and enabling the team to make steady progress.

Key Responsibilities
  • This role partners closely with the RTE, who is responsible for cross‑team and ART‑level flow, while the ATF remains focused on the success of this specific initiative’s working team.
  • The ATF will help the team collaborate effectively, maintain visibility into work, surface and coordinate dependencies, and ensure healthy working dynamics as team members balance initiative responsibilities with their day‑to‑day roles. This role is foundational during the early stages of roadmap development and detailed work decomposition.
Team Facilitation & Operating Model Support
  • Facilitate team working sessions, backlog refinement, planning discussions, and retrospectives to maintain alignment and momentum.
  • Promote healthy collaboration and team dynamics, ensuring members have clarity on priorities, commitments, and next steps.
  • Reinforce Lean‑Agile and flow‑based practices appropriate for a cross‑functional business initiative (not a development Scrum team).
  • Help the team adopt consistent, predictable working rhythms as they define and decompose the initiative roadmap.
Workflow & Jira Tracking
  • Ensure consistent and transparent tracking of work in Jira, maintaining a visible picture of priorities, progress, risks, and dependencies.
  • Facilitate backlog refinement; surface gaps in ticket clarity without owning ticket content.
    • Ensure work meets the Definition of Ready before being included in planning or iteration cycles.
    • Partner with Transformation team members to reinforce Jira best practices and flow‑based tracking approaches.
Dependency, Risk, and Issue Management
  • Identify and surface risks and blockers early; coordinate with the RTE to resolve ART‑ or cross‑team‑level risks.
  • Track and communicate cross‑team dependencies that impact initiative sequencing and roadmap feasibility.
  • Support the team in preparing clear risk inputs for Pre‑PI and PI planning activities.
Alignment & Collaboration
  • Ensure initiative work remains aligned to strategic goals, ART-level objectives, and roadmap commitments through close partnership with the RTE and initiative leadership.
  • Coordinate with business leaders, functional partners, and vendors as needed to ensure visibility and flow (without owning vendor management).
  • Promote data‑driven improvement by helping the team understand key flow indicators and progress metrics.
Role-Based Boundaries and Coordination

To maintain alignment with organizational expectations and avoid conflicts with engineering leadership:

This role does
  • Support the cross‑functional business initiative team only
  • Enable clarity, flow, sequencing, and collaboration
  • Work with the RTE for ART‑level integration and risk management
  • Contribute to planning readiness and roadmap decomposition
  • Reinforce Agile/Lean ways of working appropriate for a business‑led team
This role does not
  • Function as a Scrum Master for development or engineering teams
  • Manage vendor delivery or technical implementation
  • Duplicate RTE responsibilities or serve as program manager for the entire initiative
  • Drive engineering practices, Dev Ops, or technology delivery expectations
Experience & Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience in Agile environments, preferably as a Scrum Master, Agile Project Lead, Facilitator, or similar role supporting cross‑functional teams.
  • Strong facilitation, communication, and interpersonal skills; ability to work with team members contributing part‑time.
  • Familiarity with Agile frameworks (Scrum, Kanban, SAFe) and the ability to…
