Position: Web Designer/Drupal Themer (Level 2)
Our client, a government agency supporting legislative and digital communication efforts, is seeking a Web Designer/Drupal Themer to join their team. As a Web Designer/Drupal Themer, you will be part of the Digital Services Department supporting the Web Development Team. The ideal candidate will have strong problem-solving skills, excellent communication abilities, and a collaborative mindset, which will align successfully in the organization.

Job Title: Web Designer/Drupal Themer

Location: Washington, District Of Columbia

Pay Range: $55/hr W2

What's the Job?

• Design and develop complex, high-fidelity custom Drupal themes and site building on the House Drupal platform.
• Collaborate with developers, project teams, and non-technical staff to translate high-level needs into functional digital products.
• Lead client consultations regarding UX, information architecture, and visual design to ensure user-centric solutions.
• Identify project risks early, troubleshoot CSS/JS conflicts, and implement effective workarounds within platform constraints.
• Perform deep customization and optimization of existing websites to enhance performance and fix legacy issues.

What's Needed?

• Proven expertise in web design, visual presentation, and front-end development, demonstrated through a portfolio of work.
• Strong HTML/CSS skills with the ability to troubleshoot and code without reliance on WYSIWYG editors.
• Experience creating Drupal themes, especially on Drupal 10 and 11 platforms, with proficiency in Twig, PHP, and site building tools like Layout Builder, Views, and Paragraphs.
• Proficiency in modern JavaScript (ES6+) and version control systems such as Git.
• Deep understanding of WCAG 2.1/2.2 Level AA standards and Section 508 compliance to ensure accessibility.
