The Congressional Budget Office is a small nonpartisan agency that provides economic and budget analysis to Congress. The Information Resources Management and Technology Services Unit seeks a self-motivated Computer Systems Engineer with a strong work ethic to oversee CBO’s information technology (IT) systems. The successful candidate will report to the Chief Information Officer as part of a 13-person IT shop.
QualificationsCandidates should have a bachelor's degree in business information systems (preferred), IT, computer science, or a related field and at least five to seven years of experience in an IT environment that includes both cloud and server infrastructure. An equivalent combination of education and experience will also be considered.
Required Qualifications- AWS cloud infrastructure, including experience designing, deploying, and managing cloud environments;
- Unix/Linux systems; and
- Enterprise networking technologies, including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, routing, switching, and VPN technologies.
- Hyper-V or comparable enterprise virtualization platforms;
- Python or other scripting languages;
- Enterprise backup and disaster recovery platforms, such as Commvault Metallic or equivalent technologies; and
- AI (artificial intelligence) tools and large language model platforms to improve IT operations and productivity.
Candidates must have, or be able to obtain, a favorably adjudicated Public Trust (Tier
2) Investigation, which includes a credit check.

This position follows a hybrid work schedule and requires employees to work in person in the Washington, D.C., office on designated core days. Additional in-office days may be required on the basis of operational needs, including support of the agency’s infrastructure and data center operations. The position may require periodic travel (approximately once per month) to the agency’s alternate computer facility.
Full-time telework is not available for this position.
