Cloud Migration Engineer
General Dynamics Information Technology (GDIT) is a premier provider of high-tech IT solutions to the federal government IT market. GDIT delivers cost-effective, next-generation IT solutions and services to federal civilian agencies, the Department of Defense, and the intelligence community, as they modernize their information systems.
GDIT currently has a 76-person team providing systems development, operational maintenance and infrastructure support, and end-user application support to the Administrative Office of the US Courts. The GDIT team is currently seeking a cloud migration engineer who will be responsible for planning, executing, and validating the transition of the organization's applications, data, and infrastructure from the Judiciary's VM based data center to the Judiciary's private clouds.
The cloud migration engineer will work very closely with each application team to ensure the success of application migrations. Migrations will only be performed with pre-approved, FedRAMP authorized public clouds and not commercial public clouds.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Enterprise application migration planning.
- Application refactoring/development.
- Application migration implementation.
- Maintain software code baseline.
- Implement planned enhancements.
- Provide required or mandated fixes.
- Provide flexibility in addressing system and workflow changes driven by policy, reporting, and technological changes.
- Provide efficient adaptation to changing electronic signature and document non-repudiation requirements.
- Provide data and Identity Management integration with AO Systems as required.
- Utilize Judiciary Dev Sec Ops , configuration management, version control, and testing automation tools.
- Demonstrated ability to diagnose complex system failures and restore services under pressure.
- Communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders and documenting processes and procedures clearly.
- Create communications about system changes tailored to a variety of audiences including DCIO management, other Directorates, court unit management, and end users.
- Coordinate resolution of Security scan findings to adhere to defined and evolving standards.
- Develop solutions in accordance with AO policies and procedures.
- Provide subject matter expertise recommendations in work execution for technical best practices and provide cost savings and process improvements to the government.
- Use the shared SDLC resources provided by the AO including but not limited to Jira.
- Document status and report work hours on tasks daily.
- Interact with the end users on case-by-case scenarios.
Required Qualifications , Experience, and
Competencies:
- Five (5) plus years of relevant cloud migration experience with major federal IT applications.
- Extensive experience and knowledge with AWS, Azure, Google, and Oracle cloud providers. Not all applications will be migrated to the same cloud provider.
- Experience and knowledge in principles and practices of software development lifecycle (SDLC) and Agile methodologies.
- Familiar with open-source applications, e.g., LAMP.
- Familiar with Ansible, Git, and Docker.
- Familiar with Bash, YAML, Python, and PHP.
- Familiar with applications.
- Experience working with MySQL database.
- Experience with Extract/Transform/Load (ETL).
- Proficiency in business tools, such as, Word, Excel, Power-Point, Visio, SharePoint, Teams, etc.
- Excellent written and verbal skills.
- Ability to provide guidance to a small team and to integrate as part of a larger team.
- Ability to analyze complex data and present findings in a clear and easily understandable manner.
- Ability to present recommendations for consideration and influence as needed.
- Demonstrated experience working in a load-balanced environment
- Understanding of IT practices, service management, governance frameworks, and industry standards (i.e., ITIL, ITSM, COBIT, ISO).
- Working knowledge of IT tracking tools, preferably Service Now and Jira.
Certifications:
The candidate must possess at least TWO of the following current certifications:
- AWS SA Professional
- Azure SA Expert
- OCI Architect Professional
- Google Professional Cloud Architect
Education and Experience Requirements:
MA/MS with 10+ years of directly related IT experience (or BA/BS with 13+ years of directly related IT experience).
The likely salary range for this position is $195,240 - $264,148. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
