Thorben Consulting is seeking an experienced SAP Security Subject Matter Expert (SME) to support a Student Management System implementation on SAP S/4
HANA SLcM (Student Lifecycle Management) for a U.S. government Higher Education client. In this role, you will design, implement, and harden role-based access controls, authorizations, and data privacy safeguards for student administration processes running on SAP S/4
HANA 2023 and later. You will work closely with functional SLcM consultants, technical developers, and government stakeholders to ensure the solution meets federal security, compliance, and student data privacy requirements. This is a fully remote opportunity for a security-focused SAP professional with deep expertise in embedded GRC, role management, and segregation of duties.
- Design complex structural and conventional authorizations for student records, academic structures, admissions, and program management (SLcM Authorization Concepts)
- Enforce strict data protection controls, data blocking, and pseudonymization for sensitive student demographic and grade data (FERPA & Data Privacy Compliance)
- Integrate S/4
HANA security with SAP Cloud Identity Services or third-party IDPs for student/faculty portals (Identity & Access Management) - Configure and secure SAP Fiori catalogs and groups tailored for student self-service and faculty grading workflows (Fiori Security for Campus Apps)
- Build least-privilege roles using PFCG and Identity Access Management (IAM) (Role-Based Access Control)
- Monitor unauthorized or sensitive queries against confidential student files (Read Access Logging)
- Mitigate risk across academic and financial/student-ledger transactional crossovers (Audit & Segregation of Duties)
- Configure and maintain SAP S/4
HANA Embedded GRC for access risk analysis, role design, and continuous SoD monitoring
- Candidate must be a US Citizen
- Secret security clearance or ability to obtain one
- 5-10 years of SAP Security experience, including role design, authorization concepts, and user access administration
- Hands-on experience with SAP S/4
HANA 2023 or later security and authorization configuration - Experience with SAP Embedded GRC / Role Management, including access risk analysis and mitigation
- Strong knowledge of Segregation of Duties (SoD) analysis and remediation across functional and technical roles
- Proficiency building and maintaining roles via PFCG and structural/conventional authorization objects
- Experience configuring Read Access Logging (RAL) for sensitive data monitoring
- Experience securing SAP Fiori catalogs, groups, and launchpad access for role-based self-service applications
- Understanding of data privacy and protection principles, including data blocking and pseudonymization for sensitive personal data
- Strong communication skills and ability to work directly with functional consultants, developers, and government stakeholders
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field
- SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP) security and identity experience, including SAP Cloud Identity Services integration
- Prior experience on a SAP Higher Education / Student Lifecycle Management (SLcM) project
- Experience with SAP B/4
HANA, SAP Business Objects and SAP PI/PO RBAC - Experience with FERPA compliance or other student/education data privacy regulations
- Prior experience on DoD, DoW, or other federal government SAP implementations
- Familiarity with single sign-on (SSO) and identity provider (IDP) integration for student/faculty portals
