Role Summary

The Data Management Specialist will support the management, administration, and optimization of data infrastructure for the Antitrust Division of the U.S. Department of Justice. The role focuses on cloud services, database management, data analysis, reporting solutions, and data engineering, with hands-on work using Azure, SQL Server, Power BI, Apache Tomcat, R Studio, and Azure Databricks. The position requires the ability to work independently and collaboratively on data-related projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Administer and support Azure cloud resources, including Azure SQL Database, Azure Blob Storage, and Azure Data Lake.
  • Manage and configure Azure-based solutions for data storage, security, and access control.
  • Implement automation scripts for managing and provisioning Azure resources using Azure CLI and Power Shell.
  • Monitor and optimize SQL Server instances for efficiency and reliability.
  • Perform database backups, restore operations, and database integrity activities.
  • Assist with migrations and upgrades of SQL Server environments to Azure SQL.
  • Assist with deployment and maintenance of applications using Apache Tomcat.
  • Troubleshoot Apache Tomcat issues and ensure servers operate optimally.
  • Contribute to Azure Databricks pipelines supporting data transformation and data engineering processes.
  • Build scalable ETL processes using Azure Databricks.
  • Create and maintain Power BI reports, dashboards, and data visualizations.
  • Collaborate with business users to understand reporting needs and develop intuitive visualizations.
  • Use R Studio for data analysis, statistical modeling, and generating insights from large datasets.
  • Work with the data science team to build predictive models and statistical reports.
  • Document processes, workflows, and configurations to support consistent data management practices.
Required Technical Skills
  • SQL Server Database Administration, including performance tuning, backups, and restores.
  • Apache Tomcat application deployment and integration.
  • Power BI report creation, dashboards, and data visualization.
  • R Studio for data analysis and statistical modeling.
  • Azure Databricks for data engineering and big data processing workflows.
  • Azure CLI and Power Shell for automation and provisioning.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve data management issues.
  • Strong ability to communicate technical information to non-technical stakeholders.
Preferred / Nice-to-Have Skills
  • Experience with Azure Dev Ops for continuous integration and deployment (CI/CD) in data management projects.
  • Familiarity with automation tools such as Power Shell and Python.
  • Knowledge of Data Governance principles and best practices.
  • Experience with data migration and cloud-based database management, particularly moving SQL Server databases to Azure SQL.
  • Microsoft Certifications in Azure, Power BI, or SQL Server.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Management, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience working in data management.
  • Hands-on experience with Azure, SQL Server, Power BI, Apache Tomcat, R Studio, and Azure Databricks.
  • Public Trust clearance is required and cannot begin assignment until granted; the intake notes indicate candidates currently holding a Public Trust are sought, with DOJ Public Trust preferred.
  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Onsite work in Washington, DC; telework is not permitted.
