Assistant Disciplinary Counsel

. The ADC investigates and prosecutes allegations of attorney misconduct and reinstatement petitions from initial investigation through hearings and appeals.
Base pay range: $/yr - $/yr
Essential Duties & Responsibilities- Investigate allegations of attorney misconduct by interviewing witnesses, issuing subpoenas, reviewing documents and court filings, and conducting legal research and analysis.
- Draft letters and memoranda of factual findings and recommendations for appropriate case disposition.
- Represent the ODC in formal, administrative proceedings before hearing committees, including developing case presentation strategy, drafting pleadings, presenting documentary evidence at administrative hearings, examining witnesses, and, where appropriate, negotiating with respondent attorneys to resolve matters.
- Prepare post‑hearing briefs and deliver oral presentations before hearing committees and, as needed, the Board on Professional Responsibility and the District of Columbia Court of Appeals.
- Prepare and present ethics and attorney discipline‑related programs for continuing legal education.
- Participate in legal staff meeting discussions and moot courts.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- J.D. degree from an accredited law program.
- Member in good standing of the DC Bar or eligible to waive into the DC Bar.
- Demonstrated trial advocacy and courtroom skills.
- Ability to identify factual and legal issues; collect, interpret and analyze large volumes of data; and establish facts, draw valid conclusions, and develop alternative solutions.
- Strong research and analytical skills.
- Effectively communicate verbally and in writing, with excellent legal writing skills.
- Work well in a team environment and interact professionally with staff, witnesses, opposing counsel, hearing committee and Board members, the courts, the DC Bar, government and other attorney discipline agencies, and the public.
- Successfully work in a fast‑paced environment and consistently manage competing priorities to meet deadlines.
- Must work well under pressure, possess excellent time‑management and organization abilities, successfully manage daily tasks, and work with minimal supervision.
- Must be adaptable, creative, detail‑oriented, deadline‑driven, and self‑motivated.
- Proficient in Microsoft 365, Adobe Pro, and online legal research.
- Ability to handle and maintain the confidentiality of highly sensitive information.
- Demonstrated commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working environment.

This is a hybrid position, with days worked in the office and days worked remotely. The hybrid status may change at any time, subject to the ODC’s discretion.
