The National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) is the voice of the nation’s television and radio broadcasters. As the premier trade association for the broadcasting industry, NAB serves as the chief advocate for broadcasters in the nation’s capital, ensuring policymakers understand the issues that shape the broadcasting landscape. NAB educates Congress, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and the administration on how legislation and regulation affect broadcasters’ ability to serve every community with trusted journalism, vital emergency information and the sports and entertainment that bring Americans together.
NAB is seeking an Assistant / Associate General Counselto join its Legal and Regulatory Affairs department. Reporting to the Chief Legal Officer, this position is responsible for developing and advancing policy positions and addressing legal and regulatory issues affecting NAB members across a wide range of complex and evolving topics.
Key areas of focus include broadcast technology and spectrum use, deployment of new transmission standards, competition policy affecting broadcasters, AI licensing, political broadcasting and other content-related matters and carriage of broadcast signals by multichannel video programming distributors. The position involves significant interaction with attorneys, engineers, government relations professionals, NAB members and personnel at the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and other government agencies.
Key Responsibilities- Collaborate with legislative and technology teams to develop and advance NAB policy positions.
- Research, review and analyze statutes, regulations, case law and regulatory developments, as well as industry-specific publications, economic analyses and engineering data.
- Draft legal memoranda, regulatory comments, briefs and other advocacy materials.
- Represent NAB in meetings with policymakers and their staffs, including oral advocacy.
- Prepare and review materials supporting NAB’s advocacy efforts.
- Analyze proposed legislation and regulatory initiatives affecting broadcasters.
- Plan and participate in industry events, programs and educational initiatives.
- Respond to NAB member inquiries regarding legal and regulatory issues.
- Juris Doctor degree and at least two years of related legal experience.
- Demonstrated legal research and writing skills.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Experience in broadcast, wireless, satellite or cable industries.
- Experience working with or advising on emerging technologies.
Job level and compensation will be commensurate with experience, skills and qualifications.
