The VA Office of General Counsel Personnel Law Group (PLG) is seeking attorney candidates in Washington, D.C., with experience in employment law who are committed to public service and dedicated to supporting our nation's Veterans and VA employees through the provision of essential legal services.
GS-14
Must Have:- Unrestricted license to practice law in any jurisdiction
- 3 years of relevant experience in federal-sector employment and labor law
- Recent litigation experience – civil or criminal
- Experience drafting motions, answering discovery, appearing before administrative/judicial forums
- Experience appearing before EEOC, MSPB, FLRA, arbitrators and mediators
- Experience advising supervisors on performance and misconduct disciplinary actions
- Experience with bargaining-unit employees and various unions
- Dynamic, intellectually challenging, and highly collaborative environment
- Focus primarily on expansive area of law, employment litigation and/or policy, including matters of first impression and interpretation of new legislation, specific subject matters include:
Labor, Administrative Investigations, Classification, Collective Bargaining Agreement Reviews, Credentialing and Privileging, State Licensing Board (SLB), National Practitioner Data Bank (NPDB), Disciplinary Process, Discrimination Law, Employee Agreements and Delegations, Employee Benefits, Employee Education Programs and Scholarships, Immigration, Labor Relations, Leave, Occupational Health/Workers Compensation/Fitness for Duty, Office of Special Counsel and Whistle blower Retaliation, Pay and Awards, Performance Management, Reasonable Accommodation, Senior Executive Service, Staffing, VA Accountability and Whistle blower Protection Act. - Interact with OGC and VA senior leadership as well as outside entities such as Department of Justice, Office of Personnel Management, and Congress on new initiatives and matters of national importance
- Entrusted to handle sensitive and complex matters, lead major preventative law initiatives, and provide outreach/guidance to field offices
- Location negotiable - OGC offices are conveniently located in cities across the country

- Journeyman grade GS-14 with potential for a GS-15 promotion
