The STEMM Opportunity Alliance (SOA) is a bold national effort working to transform opportunity in science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and medicine (STEMM), adding 20 million new STEMM experts to the US economy by 2050. AAAS serves as the backbone organization, convening hundreds of partners across sectors to build and carry out actions to advance our Alliance's shared vision for progress and prosperity in STEMM.

As the Senior Project Manager, you will lead the day‑to‑day coordination, planning, and partner engagement that enables this national initiative to function effectively. You'll work closely with the SOA Director to translate strategy into action, support Partners across SOA work streams, and ensure the initiative's goals stay on track.

What You'll Do Project Planning & Management
  • Manage and coordinate SOA's strategy Work groups and core backbone offerings.
  • Build relationships with STEMM learning and training partners that do and can contribute to Workgroup efforts.
  • Manage systems that track progress toward annual, midterm, and long‑term goals.
  • Support coordination across multiple work streams to ensure alignment.
  • Design and strategize SOA in‑person and virtual events
  • Keep SOA's network of organizations moving toward shared annual, midterm, and long‑term goals.
  • Build trusted relationships with anchor partners and support workstream leads.
Stakeholder Management & Community Building
  • Design and orchestrate valuable learning, engagement, and community building opportunities throughout the year.
  • Cultivate an active, engaged community of practice across the national membership.
  • Coordinate and manage monthly meetings including SOA Work groups and Steering Committee meetings
  • Design agendas that spark alignment, creativity, and progress, and advance established objectives.
Operations & Team Support
  • Contribute to discussions on goals, objectives, and strategy.
  • Provide logistical, operational, and coordination support across the SOA initiative.
  • Maintain an annual project calendar to ensure timely delivery of activities and outputs.
  • Support budget tracking and process invoices and reimbursements.
  • Work collaboratively with AAAS staff involved in communications, logistics, fundraising, and other specialized roles.
Communication & Technical Assistance
  • Inform SOA communications and ensure alignment with strategic objectives and workplans.
  • Respond to partner and stakeholder inquiries.
  • Transform complex information into polished executive‑ready content; create polished decks, briefings, memos, and materials that look and feel 'management‑consulting ready.'
  • Make high‑stakes, high‑complexity material digestible for funders, governance groups, and national leaders.
Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree and 4+ years professional work experience OR an Associate's degree or equivalent and 6+ years of professional work experience in program coordination of multi‑year, complex projects with multiple priorities, partners, and deliverables.
  • Experience in program coordination and managing complex projects with multiple partners.
  • Demonstrated success in stakeholder engagement and partnership development, specifically community management and engaging a broad alliance of partners from various sectors (e.g., education, workforce, government).
  • Experience spanning education and workforce development. Preferred:
    Knowledge of STEMM specific education, broadening participation in STEMM, or workforce policies
  • Strong skills in evaluation frameworks and project management.
  • Proven ability to track budgets, assess program impact, and manage deliverables.
  • Comfortable in assuming risks, exercising discretion, problem‑solving, and recommending courses of action.
  • Strategic thinking and ability to make recommendations for process improvements.
  • Strong problem‑solving and decision‑making skills.
