Overview

WSP is currently initiating a search for a DC Local Business Leader (LBL) for our Transportation Business Line, responsible for our Washington, DC office.

The DC Local Area Business Leader will drive operational performance and growth while enabling WSP to be the preferred and trusted choice for clients, employees, and partners. They are the local CEO of WSP within the bounds of our Delegation of Authority promoting internal collaboration and teamwork. The Local Area Business Leader will passionately lead their business service delivery location through WSP’s strategy focused on four pillars of success:
Clients, Expertise, People & Culture and Operational Excellence.

Your Impact
  • Operational Excellence
    • Responsible for financial and operational performance including supporting the District business P&L, revenue generation, project margin, DSO, project delivery, client satisfaction, staff utilization, safety and other financial metrics. Develops and executes local growth and business development strategy.
    • Drives rigor in business practices and supports organizational initiatives to drive performance.
    • Focuses on and inspires excellence in projects and project delivery.

    • Instills a “Founder’s Mentality” that drives a culture of accountability and entrepreneurship.
    • Attracts the best industry talent by fostering an inclusive and collaborative work environment.
    • Drives programs focused on employee experience, development, and engagement and as such regularly holds meetings to update the local offices on wins, losses, pipeline and prospects while providing encouragement to those in the offices that are making real achievements in profession, career, and general development.

    • Encourages, supports, and promotes the technical and professional development of local WSP staff.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or in a relevant field. Advanced degree is a plus.
  • 15+ years of relevant post education experience focusing on a combination of Business and Operations Management, Business Development, Project Management, Program Management.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and ability to build long-term, meaningful relationships with clients.
  • Ability to translate complicated technical information into sales messages.
  • Ability to think strategically and creatively, and craft approaches to challenging problems.
  • Collaboration and a partnering approach.
  • Excellent leadership and development skills.
  • Ability to influence and gain buy-in.

    Demonstrated change management skills and expertise.
  • Experience with clients including state DOTs, transit, municipal, county, private, and business partners in Location.
  • Demonstrated experience of leadership, delivery, and growth of a P&L.
  • Ability to innovate and re-think the conventional approach to client and employee engagement.
  • Strong business acumen with an aptitude for improving processes. Experience in managing group-level operations.
