There is no substitution of education for specialized experience for this position.
ExperienceYou must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower grade level. Specialized experience is directly related experience that included substantial involvement with a correctional program and provided a thorough knowledge of correctional techniques, or experience in meeting and dealing with people that demonstrated the ability to work effectively with inmates and associates in a correctional environment.
Experience must also have demonstrated the ability to perform supervisory or administrative duties successfully. This includes (1) understanding the problems of custody, treatment, training, and release of inmates of penal or correctional institutions; (2) a thorough and comprehensive knowledge of an institution's internal policies, programs, regulations, and procedures; and (3) training subordinates, coordinating and directing activities and functions, evaluating performance of operations and the effectiveness of programs, and maintaining high standards or work objectives.
This experience must have been gained in an administrative position, or in other positions that included the successful direction, or assistance in the direction of, an entire correctional program or a major phase of such a program.
- Experience working with external partner agencies (including the judiciary, Offices of Probation and Pretrial Services, Housing and Urban Development, Health and Human Services, Department of Justice (DOJ), Internal Revenue Services, Department of Labor, Department of Education, Veterans Affairs, faith-based and non-profit agencies, colleges and universities, etc.) to develop and host joint training sessions, conferences, and workshops across the regions to enhance collaboration, skill development resources, continuity of care and address related reentry issues.
- Experience with the oversight of the development, implementation, coordination, and monitoring of the Federal Reentry Strategy as mandated by the Second Chance Act of 2007 and the related BOP strategic implementation plan in accordance with legislative mandates and GAO recommendations.
- Experience coordinating the BOP’s response and support of the President’s Management Agenda (PMA) related to faith-based and community reentry initiatives.
- Experience evaluating existing programs and initiatives and recommends strategies to strengthen efforts.
- Experience coordinating documentation supporting evidence-based programs and practices for use in resource justification and to direct their application in the correctional environment.
- Experience developing assessment, skills building and reentry strategies and services for federal offenders using a thorough working knowledge of BOP policy and procedures related to unit and case management, inmate programming, institution administration and supervision of federal offenders.
