Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Project Manager to lead Facilities Management (FM) projects within a Higher Education environment in Washington, DC. This role is responsible for managing projects from initiation through completion, ensuring delivery aligns with strategic objectives, operational standards, and financial targets.

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 5+ years of Facilities Management project management experience
, preferably within Higher Education or institutional environments, and strong exposure to MEP-related projects.

Key Responsibilities Project Leadership & Delivery
  • Oversee all phases of the project lifecycle including planning, procurement, execution, monitoring, and closeout.
  • Ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope, and within budget.
  • Develop detailed project plans, schedules, and resource allocations.
  • Manage contractors, vendors, and consultants to ensure compliance with institutional standards.
Facilities & Technical Oversight
  • Lead Facilities Management projects involving infrastructure upgrades, renovations, deferred maintenance, and capital improvements.
  • Coordinate Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) systems-related work.
  • Ensure projects comply with campus regulations, safety standards, and operational requirements.
Team Leadership
  • Provide supervision and direction to project team members.
  • Assign tasks, establish work schedules, and ensure accountability.
  • Support training and professional development initiatives.
  • Conduct performance reviews where applicable.
Risk & Compliance Management
  • Identify and assess project risks and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Lead regular project review meetings to track progress and resolve issues.
  • Ensure contract procurement and administration are accurate and compliant with institutional policies.
Financial Management
  • Monitor budgets, billing, accounts receivable, and expense controls.
  • Manage financial performance including full P&L accountability where applicable.
  • Track cost forecasts and manage change orders effectively.
Stakeholder & Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Partner with campus leadership, facilities teams, finance, and external vendors.
  • Communicate project status updates to stakeholders.
  • Ensure seamless coordination across departments to meet strategic objectives.
Required Qualifications
  • Minimum 5+ years of Facilities Management project management experience
    .
  • Experience managing projects within Higher Education, institutional, or campus environments preferred.
  • Proven background in construction management, real estate, or FM capital projects.
  • Working knowledge of MEP systems and building infrastructure.
  • Strong financial acumen, including budget management and cost control.
  • Excellent leadership and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a dynamic environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Facilities Management, Engineering, or related field preferred.
Preferred / Advantageous
  • Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, or similar discipline) or related technical field would be advantageous.
  • PMP certification or equivalent project management credential.
  • Experience operating within active campus environments where work must be coordinated around academic schedules.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
