About the Role

As a key member of our Executive Leadership Team, the Chief Financial and Administrative Officer (CFAO) reports directly to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and plays a critical role in shaping the future of our organization. The CFAO is responsible for the strategic oversight of finance, information technology, risk management, business operations, product program, and facilities. This is a leadership opportunity for a dynamic, forward-thinking professional who can ensure operational excellence while aligning financial resources to support our mission: building Girl Scouts of courage, confidence, and character who make the world a better place.

The CFAO leads a strong and capable team and has four direct reports
: the Controller
, Director of Operations
, Director of Product Program
, and Financial Operations Specialist
. This role fosters cross-functional collaboration and accountability across departments, and partners closely with the CEO, Executive Team, Board Committees, and key stakeholders to steward the organization's financial health and operational integrity.

Key Areas of Focus
  • Financial Strategy & Oversight
    :
    Lead budgeting, forecasting, reporting, audits, investments, and compliance to ensure long‑term financial sustainability. Serve as primary liaison to finance-related Board committees.
  • Operations Leadership
    :
    Oversee business operations, IT, product program, facilities, and risk management. Ensure systems and policies are efficient, inclusive, and mission-aligned.
  • Strategic Collaboration
    :
    Partner with the CEO, Executive Team, and Board to advance organizational goals through sound resource allocation, operational excellence, and proactive risk management.
What We’re Looking For
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (MBA or CPA preferred).
  • 10+ years in senior leadership roles overseeing finance and administration, ideally in a nonprofit setting.
  • Proven success managing multidisciplinary teams and fostering high performance.
  • Deep knowledge of nonprofit financial standards (FASB, GAAP), grant reporting, and compliance.
  • Strong business acumen with strategic planning expertise.
  • Skilled communicator and collaborator with experience working alongside Boards and diverse stakeholders.
  • Commitment to Girl Scouts’ mission and values, including equity, inclusion, and belonging.
Additional Requirements
  • Ability to travel within the Greater Washington, DC area, including to program sites and Council properties.
  • Availability for occasional evenings and weekends as needed.

The starting salary range for this position is $225,000 - $250,000.
