ACORE is seeking a passionate, energetic, and talented communications intern to join our team and help us deliver on our mission to promote investment in American clean energy infrastructure, development, and innovation. The intern role will involve supporting social media strategy and content development, drafting newsletters, conducting press outreach, managing databases, and delivering other duties as assigned.
The ideal candidate is proactive and eager to learn, with strong writing skills and the ability to work independently. Interns will report to the Communications Manager and will spend approximately 50% of their time on a communications-related research project of their choice, which they will present to ACORE communications staff and other leaders at the end of the internship. Candidates should be working toward a major in strategic communication, public relations, political science, or a similar field.
Interest or background in renewable energy, policy, the electric grid, project finance, or advocacy is a plus.
This internship is paid at a rate of $17.95 per hour. Interns will be treated like colleagues; their opinions and contributions will be valued; they will gain legitimate experience and will make valuable connections in the energy industry. This position is based in Washington, D.C. with flexibility regarding days spent in office.
Responsibilities
- Draft, edit and/or proofread a wide variety of written content (e.g., press releases, social media posts, newsletters)
- Assist with drafting, producing, and posting content for ACORE’s social media platforms including X/Twitter and Linked In
- Update and maintain team project management databases
- Support event promotion strategies for signature conferences and other key ACORE events
- Attend and report on industry events and/or hearings on behalf of the organization
- Prepare for and participate in weekly team meetings to learn about best practices in integrated communications and membership organization marketing
- Bring fresh eyes and new perspectives to how ACORE communicates to its key audiences; confidently provide suggestions to Communications Manager and other leaders about strategy
- Perform other tasks and duties as assigned
- Strong interpersonal skills and experience working as part of a team
- Understanding of how to work in a professional environment
- Self-motivated and dependable
- Solid writing skills, including familiarity with Associated Press style
- Ability to work independently, multitask, and take ownership over projects and assignments
- Intellectual curiosity and an interest in renewable energy
- Familiarity with social media strategy
- Experience with MS Office suite
- Visual/graphic communications experience preferred, but not required
