The Director of Coalition Strategy is responsible for developing and executing strategies for stakeholder engagement, building and managing relationships with like‑minded groups, associations and non‑profits, and leading coalition‑wide advocacy and outreach efforts. This includes maintaining and growing existing relationships and seeking new opportunities across the child health space. Assists with leading the overall coalition strategy for the federal affairs, policy, external affairs and child health teams and keeps a close partnership with the Brand Communications team.
Responsible for educating leadership within CHA and across CHA’s member hospitals to ensure messaging, work efforts and goals are consistently communicated.
- Creates and implements strategic plans for coalition engagement and issue‑based advocacy.
- Identifies opportunities to strengthen CHA’s influence with child‑focused, health‑related, and like‑minded organizations.
- Sets annual goals, metrics, and priorities for coalition involvement and advocacy initiatives.
- Provides strategic guidance to internal teams to ensure cohesive and aligned approaches across all Public Affairs functions.
- Represents CHA in coalition settings, ensuring the organization’s perspectives and priorities are clearly communicated.
- Seeks to expand current relationships and engagement with existing coalition and partnerships and finds new opportunities across the health and child space.
- Identifies and assigns internal staff to participate in coalitions and caucuses, offering direction and strategic support as needed.
- Leads, convenes, or actively participates in coalition meetings to drive alignment and collective impact.
- Facilitates discussions, sets agendas, and guides collaborative work to achieve shared advocacy goals.
- Coordinates cross‑organization working groups and task forces as necessary.
- Ensures effective follow‑up actions and cultivates momentum among coalition members.
- Develops and implements issue‑specific advocacy campaigns in partnership with internal policy and federal affairs teams.
- Creates high‑quality communication materials including talking points, policy summaries, fact sheets, and strategic updates.
- Distributes clear, consistent messaging to CHA leadership, member hospitals, and coalition partners.
- Collaborates closely with brand comms and external affairs to align on messaging for coalition engagements.
- Oversees execution of coalition projects, events, and special initiatives.
- Manages pay‑to‑play opportunities, including budget oversight, deliverable tracking, and value assessment.
- Coordinates timelines, resources, and partner expectations to ensure successful outcomes.
- Evaluates program performance and identifies opportunities for improvement or increased impact.
- Analyzes data and political landscape insights to inform strategy and advocacy decisions.
- Tracks program performance, partner engagement, and coalition outcomes.
- Prepares reports and updates for senior leaders, summarizing progress, metrics, and recommended next steps.
Any combination of education and experience providing the required skill and knowledge is qualifying. Typical qualifications would be equivalent to:
- Bachelor’s degree in political science, public policy, health care administration or related field. Master’s degree preferred.
- Minimum of five years of professional experience in public policy or related field.
- Proven track record in coalition building, organizing, or constituency outreach.
- Exceptional communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong strategic thinking, project management, and organizational skills.
- Ability to manage projects and resources effectively.
- Previous experience with Hill and stakeholder events is required.
- Experience in motivating teams and facilitating consensus among groups.
