ABOUT THE JOB

The ACLU seeks applicants for the full-time position of Senior Campaign Lead, Redistricting in the National Political Advocacy Department of the ACLU’s National office in Washington, D.C. This is a hybrid role that has in‑office requirements of two (2) days per week or eight (8) days per month.

YOU'LL DO

The Senior Campaign Lead, Redistricting will report to the Director of National Campaigns, Democracy within the National Campaigns Division.

YOUR DAY TO DAY
  • Reporting to the Director of National Campaigns, Democracy, help to manage a team charged with charting the course for the ACLU’s political agenda, specifically the organization’s democracy program.
  • In conjunction with the Director of National Campaigns, Democracy, provide leadership in the development of novel goals, strategy, and vision, and the strategic plans necessary to advance key political outcomes.
  • Identify areas of work that should be prioritized, developing an annual slate of priorities that help drive the core work of the program.
  • Provide strategic advice and counsel to the Director of National Campaigns, Democracy and Chief Political & Advocacy Officer in areas of expertise and in efforts to lead the department’s engagements; lead the team in the Director of National Campaigns, Democracy’s absence, as designated.
  • Design and lead complex, multi‑tooled campaigns from planning to execution, spearheading the development of robust campaign goals, plans, strategies, tactics, and budgets to achieve outcomes in specific areas.
  • Lead legislative and administrative campaigns, with minimal need for management level guidance.
  • Utilize a wide variety of sophisticated campaign tactics and tools.
  • Successfully employ constituent and/or voter targeting, developing advertisements (TV, radio, print), polling, and developing creative campaign tactics for earned media or other purposes.
  • Retain and manage vendors and consultants.
  • Work closely with the Organizing Division on developing field plans for relevant campaigns.
  • Coordinate the day‑to‑day activities of the staff working on campaigns in a matrixed structure.
  • Work in coordination with other senior stakeholders, affiliate staff, and national staff, including policy staff within the political advocacy department.
  • Develop strategic partnerships that expand the ACLU’s influence in ways the ACLU would otherwise not have operating alone.
  • Convene and execute on‑ground meetings, planning, and campaign events in priority jurisdictions.
  • Exercise significant independent judgment to solve problems and determine creative solutions.
  • Assume a senior advisory role, including by serving as project manager for specially designated campaigns or programming.
  • Represent the department in internal and external context, as the leader of the specially designated campaign/programming.
  • Demonstrate an ability to be flexible and adjust priorities as necessary in order to adapt to changing external environment.
  • Help develop staff capacity to work together collaboratively and grow issue expertise.
  • Support efforts to recruit staff, and further strengthen the Department.
