Job Details
• Work in an 18-bay Preoperative Unit within a Level I Trauma Center,
• Handles preoperative preparation for a diverse surgical population including cardiac, plastics, ENT, vascular, minimally invasive, oncology, and more,
• Patient ratio is 1:3,
• Supports both elective and urgent surgery cases across inpatient and ambulatory/outpatient settings,
• Day shift schedules available: 4x10 or 3x12, starting as early as 5:00 am,
• Weekend and holiday coverage required every other weekend and alternating holidays,
• Uses Cerner EMR system,
• Requires Phase II Recovery and Level II Trauma experience,
Job Requirements
• Active DC RN license in hand or proof of pending license at time of consideration,
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications required,
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience in a preoperative or similar environment,
• Demonstrated skill in moderate sedation and regional anesthesia support,
• Must pass the Relias EKG Rhythm Interpretation Exam with at least 80% overall and 100% on lethal rhythms,
• Experience with IV initiation and preoperative patient assessments required,
• Must provide two supervisor references,
• Local candidates accepted; 60-mile radius rule applies,
Additional Information
• Responsibilities include conducting comprehensive preoperative assessments, initiating IVs, delivering patient education, and assisting with nerve blocks,
• Closely coordinates care with anesthesia and surgical teams for optimal patient outcomes,
• Work environment is high-acuity, requiring adaptability and proficiency with a complex patient population,
• Scrub color is ceil blue,
• First-time travelers are welcome for this role,
• No requested time off allowed during the first two weeks of the assignment, and a maximum of 7 days off for a 13-week contract,
• Previous Med Star nurses must have a one-year separation before returning as travelers,
• Completion of facility and unit-specific modules required within one week of contract signing,
• Holiday coverage is based on assigned rotation and team needs,
