Med Star Washington Hospital Center, a Magnet‑designated academic medical center, is seeking an experienced Nursing Manager and/or ICU Nurse who is eager to manage the Emergency Department and Critical Care Float pool Clinical Nurses. The ideal candidate is a highly knowledgeable nurse clinician and leader in the area of critical care. They must be a collaborative team player with a strong focus on quality, patient safety, and engagement, and have a strong understanding of regulatory compliance and best practices across clinical operations.
This role partners closely with unit‑based leadership teams to drive performance, optimize staffing, and promote a culture of excellence.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities- Directs and supervises staffing associates in scheduling and staffing functions to ensure exemplary interpersonal relations and performance standards are met; staff reallocation decisions are within limits of safe care and budgetary parameters, and deviations from the standard result in prompt timely notification to the appropriate nurse executive.
- Interviews hires and evaluates staffing associates, coordinators, and supervisors to ensure standards of performance and staffing practice are fully met, and performance improvement opportunities are identified, initiated, and evaluated.
- Collaborates with nurse executives, human resources, payroll, and finance in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of changes that impact nursing's ability to meet staffing and scheduling requirements and effectively utilize human resources in a cost‑effective manner.
- Utilizes benchmarking and decision‑support tools to improve productivity and profitability.
- Partners with nurse executives to ensure the delivery of integrated patient care by providing a sufficient number and mix of competent and qualified staff.
- Ensures that staffing associates are trained in scheduling and staffing functions and in the use and comprehension of key indicators to monitor productivity and applicable human‑resource and nursing policies and procedures to effectively and efficiently carry out their responsibilities.
- Responsible for the daily operations and commitment needs of the Float Pool.
- Collaborates with nurse executives in the financial planning process to ensure fiscal soundness of all new services and programs.
- Promotes Magnet and Pathway to Excellence standards through daily practice.
- Bachelor's degree required
- Master's degree in Nursing, Business, Finance, or Health Care Administration preferred
- 3–4 years in a hospital or healthcare setting required
- Experience and knowledge of scheduling and staffing processes and theory required
- Active DC RN license required
- Basic Life Support for Healthcare providers required
