PACU Registered Nurse (RN) – Travel Nursing – Day Shift – Washington, DC (20010)

  • Schedule: Day shifts, block scheduling (4x10-hour shifts; possible start times: 6:00–16:30, 7:30–18:00, 9:00–19:30, 10:00–20:30, 11:00–21:30)
  • Hours per Week: 40
  • Shift Duration: 10-hour days
  • Weekend/On-Call: No weekends, no on-call
  • Patient Population: Adolescents, Adults, Geriatrics
  • Unit Snapshot: 11 rooms; average daily census ~40

Qualifications /

Job Requirements
  • Experience: Minimum 2 years recent PACU RN or post-anesthesia care experience including blood product administration, infection control, specimen handling/labeling, and general PACU procedures
  • License: Active DC RN license required (pending accepted with proof at submission; must be active/in-hand prior to start)
  • Certifications: BLS and ACLS (AHA)
  • EKG Competency: Must pass Relias EKG Rhythm Interpretation Exam (minimum 80% overall and 100% on lethal rhythms)
  • Clinical Skills: Phase I PACU care, dysrhythmia recognition/management, pain assessment & management, isolation precautions/PPE, airway management, hemodynamic monitoring
  • Preferred: Trauma Level I experience and Cerner EMR experience
  • Vaccination Requirement: Flu vaccination required (no exemptions)
  • References: Two (2) supervisor references required
Responsibilities
  • Deliver safe, high-quality post-anesthesia care as a PACU Registered Nurse / Perioperative RN, including airway management, hemodynamic monitoring, and patient stabilization after anesthesia
  • Perform focused post-op assessments, manage pain and nausea/vomiting, and escalate changes in condition using evidence-based perioperative and PACU protocols
  • Interpret cardiac rhythms and respond to dysrhythmias and emergent situations following ACLS standards (PACU RN dysrhythmia management)
  • Administer medications and blood products per policy; adhere to strict infection prevention and isolation precautions
  • Ensure accurate specimen handling, labeling, and documentation to support patient safety and regulatory compliance
  • Collaborate closely with anesthesia providers, surgeons, and interdisciplinary teams to coordinate timely, patient-centered perioperative care
  • Support perioperative throughput and patient flow; float to main OR when needed based on unit census
  • Document care clearly and completely in the EMR (Cerner preferred) and participate in unit-based safety and quality improvement initiatives
