Position Summary
Provides leadership, management, and direction to continually improve the profession of nursing and patient care within the George Washington University Hospitals Service Excellence Standards. The Director is responsible for nursing care within assigned areas. Responsible for nursing quality programs that are outcome oriented and will develop and implement programs/plans in accordance with government regulations, licensing and accreditation requirements that effectively utilize resources to reach the organizations short- and long-term strategic goals/objectives/mission.
QualificationsEducation/Qualification
- Registered Nurse, BSN required
- Masters in nursing, education, or advance practice program required
- Current licensure in the District of Columbia Certification preferred, not required
- A minimum of 7 years of nursing clinical experience
- A minimum of 3 years of nursing management, supervisory experience
- Professional development and/or clinical educator experience required
- Knowledge of adult learning principles and/or practices of adult education
Skills
- Demonstrated working knowledge nursing clinical practices and management.
- Demonstrated proficiency with common computer based applications such as electronic mail, word processing and various databases, whether PC, network or mainframe based.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Ability to adapt to multiple and changing priorities
- Knowledge of principles and practices relevant to clinical nursing specialty practice.
- Demonstrated experience with Nursing Quality and Patient Safety programs and practices.
- Demonstrated knowledge of effective management and supervisory practices.
- Highly developed written and verbal communication skills.
- Interpersonal skills to foster a collaborative environment between staff members. Able to achieve operational goals though influence and expert change management skills. Demonstrates leadership abilities that contribute to a positive work environment. Promotes mutual respect and professionalism in working relationships.
