Travel ICU Registered Nurse (RN) – Neuro Trauma ICU in Washington, DC 20010. 13-week travel nursing assignment for experienced critical care nurses (2+ years ICU). - Assignment Length: 13 weeks (March 30, 2026 – June 29, 2026)
- Hours per Week: 36
- Shift Duration: 12-hour rotating shifts
- Shift Pattern: Majority day shifts (07:00–19:00); up to two weeks of nights (18:30–07:00) per 6-week schedule
- Patient Ratios: 2:1 (days/nights/weekends)
- Weekend Requirement: 6 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule; holidays as needed
- Float: Required to float to other ICUs/IMC (equivalent or lower acuity) as needed
- Unit Details: 14 beds, average daily census ~14, adult and geriatric population
- Scrub Color: Ceil blue
- Estimated Weekly Pay: $1,770–$1,860

- Experience: Minimum 2 years of recent ICU experience required;
Neuro ICU or Neuro Trauma ICU experience strongly preferred. Travel nursing experience required; new travelers welcome. - License: Active DC RN license required by start date (pending DC license accepted with proof of application; must be in hand prior to start). DC RN license, compact or state-specific RN license accepted per hiring timeline.
- Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS required; CCRN preferred.
- Clinical Skills Required: Conscious sedation, ICP monitoring, ventilator management, advanced neuro assessment (NIHSS).
- Preferred Skills: Level I trauma experience, pulmonary artery lines, IV starts, phlebotomy.
- Assessment: Must pass the Relias EKG Rhythm Interpretation Exam (minimum 80% overall, 100% on lethal rhythms).
- Charting: Cerner experience preferred.
- Vaccination: Flu vaccine required (no exemptions).
- References: Two (2) supervisor references required.
- Deliver expert critical care nursing to Neuro Trauma ICU patients, including SAH, ICH, ischemic stroke, brain mass, and head trauma cases.
- Perform frequent neuro assessments (NIHSS) and respond rapidly to neurological changes; collaborate in Comprehensive Stroke Center protocols.
- Manage ventilated and mechanically supported patients; oversee advanced oxygenation therapies including HFNC and advanced ventilator modes.
- Monitor and care for neuro-specific devices: EVDs, lumbar drains, Raumedic bolt, Arctic Sun, CVVH, and lytic catheters.
- Titrate vasoactive and cardiac drips, continuous IV sedation, and insulin protocols per policy.
- Interpret ABGs and cardiac dysrhythmias; manage multisystem organ dysfunction and sepsis in critical care settings.
- Maintain and troubleshoot arterial lines, central lines, PICCs; safely administer blood products and transfusions.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including respiratory therapy, IV team, physical therapy, pharmacy, radiology, rapid response, and social services.
- Float to other ICUs/IMC as needed while maintaining high standards of patient care and documentation.
