Job Description Summary

Provides safe, accurate and efficient patient care, including but not limited to patient assessment, review of labs and vital signs, medication safety, dose verification, and drug administration. Follows all Job Breakdown Instructions (JBIs) associated with the role. Provides triage care when necessary. Communicates patient condition effectively to multidisciplinary team members.

Key Performance Areas
  • Safely and accurately administer chemotherapy, immunotherapy, biotherapy, supportive care, and non-oncologic agents to patients as ordered by providers. Use Oncology Nurse’s Society (ONS) standards and guidelines.
  • Accurate and safe disposal of biohazardous waste per OSHA and NIOSH guidelines.
  • Provide new and ongoing patient education, continual patient assessment, and support.
  • Thorough, accurate and timely documentation in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) of treatment rendered to patients. Ensure appropriate charges captured per guidelines.
  • Follow proper patient identification per JBI for all patient encounters.
  • Educate patients and caregivers about medications, side effects and planned treatment course.
  • Interact with patient and family in a caring, professional manner.
  • Telephone triage: prioritize incoming calls and messages from patients, family members, hospitals, nursing facilities, pharmacies, and physician offices from emergent to non-urgent. Respond in an appropriate time frame.
  • Assist with inventory, re-stock medical supplies, and recommend purchase of new items. Place stock in storage areas promptly.
  • Complete annual required safety and nursing trainings. Attend all mandatory staff meetings as necessary.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all patient and employee information.
  • Assist in training new employees related to job duties according to JBIs.
  • Work at any Company location as needed and be available for overtime with sufficient notice.
  • Perform other duties and projects as assigned.
  • Comply with all federal and state laws and regulations related to patient privacy, patient rights, personnel law, safety, labor, and employment law. Adhere to Company and departmental policies, IT policies, and Disaster Plan.
Education
  • Nursing Degree
Certifications/Licenses
  • Unencumbered RN License in state of employment or multi-state license
  • Current CPR and BLS certifications
  • Valid Driver’s License and vehicle for travel to other clinic locations as needed
Previous Experience
  • Experience with hematology/oncology patients in a clinic or hospital setting.
  • Ability to assess patient needs and condition; strong critical thinking skills and ability to react calmly in emergency situations.
  • Fluency in the English language with excellent oral and written communication skills.

    Skills:

    Proficiency in MS Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. EMR experience.
Travel

Up to 25%

Standard Core Workdays/Hours

Monday to Friday 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM. Occasional overtime may be required, and weekend shifts based on location hours and operational needs.
