Candidate must successfully pass the EKG Rhythm Interpretation Exam with a minimum overall score of 80% and a score of 100% on lethal rhythms. Pending DC license is accepted, but the candidate must have a DC license in hand prior to the start date. Must have completed at least one prior travel assignment.
Description:
The RN will be responsible for the care of admitted patients with varying diagnoses. Patients will be boarding in the emergency department while awaiting bed placement in an inpatient unit. The RN will be expected to float within units of equivalent or lower levels of acuity. Weekend shifts are required every other weekend. The patient-to-nurse ratio will be approximately 1:4 to 1:5.
Skills required include telemetry, interpretation, and management of dysrhythmias. Experience with IV insulin protocols, titration of insulin drips, and feeding tube care is essential. The RN will also manage pre- and post-hemodialysis patients, renal failure, and IV therapy. Phlebotomy skills, starting IVs, and understanding of heparin protocols are necessary. Additional competencies involve PCA administration and isolation precautions. The RN will work with medical records and charting using Cerner.
The unit typically handles a high volume of patient visits and encompasses various diagnoses, including neurology, oncology, and gastroenterology. Interdisciplinary support will be available from physical therapy, pharmacy, and social services among others. COVID-19 precautions will be implemented, and all RNs must be willing to care for COVID-19 patients.
