DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:
Health and Well-Being Specialist

Help shape a healthier, safer, and more resilient workplace across PAHO. This role contributes to the design, delivery, and continuous improvement of occupational health, mental health, and staff well-being initiatives, supporting the Organization’s commitment to employee health and organizational excellence.

SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate high-impact occupational health, mental health, and well-being initiatives that promote a healthy and supportive workplace culture.
  • Coordinate clinical and preventive health services, including primary nursing care, first aid, vaccination programs, and occupational health surveillance activities.
  • Lead wellness, resilience, and healthy lifestyle programs while supporting staff health, safety, and well-being needs.
  • Monitor and analyze workforce health data, identify trends and risks, and leverage data insights and AI-enabled tools to inform decision-making and improve services.
  • Support policy development, health-related entitlements administration, compliance activities, and the management of confidential health information.
  • Collaborate with internal and external partners, health providers, and stakeholders to strengthen occupational health services and coordinate care when required.

EDUCATION Essential
  • A Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), and current licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) or certification as an Advance Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) such as a Nurse Practitioner (Family Practice) or a Bachelor of Medicine, from a recognized institution.
  • A valid license to practice in the District of Columbia is required.
EXPERIENCE Essential

Seven years of combined national and international experience in delivering occupational health services in a clinical, corporate, governmental or intergovernmental environment.

LANGUAGES

Fluency in English or Spanish with a working knowledge of the other language.

Knowledge of French and/or Portuguese would be an asset.

IT SKILLS

Demonstrated ability to effectively use current technology and software programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, One Drive, PowerPoint, Teams and SharePoint.

Knowledge of electronic medical records and ERP systems would be an asset.

  • Ability to design and implement health promotion, awareness, and preventive health initiatives.

  • Strong professional oral and written communication skills.
  • High level of discretion, tact, and confidentiality when handling sensitive health information.
  • Ability to provide first aid and stabilize patients until Emergency Medical Services (EMS) arrives.
  • Knowledge of occupational and travel health challenges affecting personnel during duty travel or deployment.
  • Familiarity with digital health technologies and AI-enabled systems that support occupational and preventive health programs.
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams and external stakeholders.
