Duties
The major duties of the Tree Worker position include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Perform regular tree maintenance activities such as tree and shrub pruning, tree removal, planting, transplanting, spraying, and cultivating.
- Climb trees on a regular basis, which can include trees up to 120 feet in height or higher.
- Use complex climbing techniques, rope knots, and specialized climbing hardware.
- Use complex rigging techniques on a regular basis and when the use of a crane is necessary.
- U.S. Citizenship required.
- Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication.
- Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males.
- Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program.

- Operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of official duties; a valid driver’s license is required, and a Class B (or higher) Commercial Driver’s License with Air Brake Endorsement must be maintained.

- Ability to lift 50 pounds.
- Applicants must be at least 18 years old or at least 16 years old with the appropriate high‑school or equivalent credentials, or be enrolled in a secondary school with appropriate student‑employment arrangements.
- Considered emergency/essential personnel.
- May be required to work evenings, weekends, and overtime hours.

Experience includes paid and unpaid work through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, Ameri Corps) and other organizations. Volunteer work is credited toward required experience.
There is no substitution of education for experience for Wage Grade (WG) positions.

Termination and Physical DemandsEmployment may be terminated at any time due to fluctuations in funding, project needs, performance, or other considerations.
Physical Demands: Frequently carries and/or moves objects up to 100 pounds with assistance, climbs and works from rope rigging, ladders, and lift mechanisms, walking, bending, standing for extended periods, working in cramped or awkward positions.
Working ConditionsRequired to work inside and outside in all weather, subject to heat, humidity, cold, and contact with chemicals, dirt, and spray residue. Must wear protective equipment and comply with safety regulations (OSHA). Telework is not suitable.
