Hourly wage: $21.69.

Location:

The Kennedy Center, Washington, DC.

• Trim and edge around walkways, flower beds, and walls using clippers and edging tools.
• Prune shrubs and trees to shape and improve growth using shears.
• Rake leaves and clean or sweep up litter using a spiked stick or broom.
• Shovel snow from walkways and driveways.
• Spread salt on public passageways.
• Plant grass, flowers, trees, and shrubs.
• Water lawns and shrubs during dry periods using hoses or by activating fixed or portable sprinkler systems.
• Clear drainage ditches and culverts using shovel and rake.
• Operate walking‑type power mowers, snow blowers, or roto‑tillers as needed.
• Operate chainsaws, hedge trimmers, and other hand‑held power‑operated tools to prune, cultivate, shovel, trim, cut, and dig.
• Perform a variety of laboring duties when yard work is completed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Incumbent must be able to stand/walk 70% of the work time and sit 30% of the time. Must lift/carry/push/pull 100 pounds, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, and handle materials and equipment. Must communicate effectively with other workers/supervisors and possess good vision and color differentiation, as driving and operating power equipment may be required. The work is mainly outdoors and subject to extreme temperature/weather conditions, dust, dirt, fumes, or flying objects (grass).

• At least one year of experience in landscape maintenance work, including mowing with a push mower and weeding.
• Must provide own transportation to the work site.
• Must be able to work independently.
