Overview

The GW Regulatory Studies Center (RSC) seeks a Senior Research Associate to conduct policy analysis and research using quantitative and qualitative methods from economics, policy, and law. This is a limited‑term, full‑time position located on campus in Foggy Bottom, Washington, D.C. The role requires no visa sponsorship.

Responsibilities
  • Independently conduct research, analysis, and writing for projects funded by grants and unrestricted sources, including literature reviews, data collection, and interpretation of regulatory impacts.
  • Analyze individual regulations, regulatory processes, and reforms through economic, policy, and legal lenses, focusing on public interest effects and distributional impacts.
  • Perform statistical analyses using R or Python, produce reports, and present findings to scholars, federal agencies, and policy makers.
  • Examine federal agency docket materials, assess costs and benefits of regulations, and clearly communicate tradeoffs and unintended consequences.
  • Author and co‑author policy commentaries, journal articles, public comments, and other research products for publication and submission to federal regulatory agencies.
  • Contribute to Reg Stats and other databases, developing dashboards and visualizations of regulatory data using programming languages such as Python and R.
  • Attend relevant functions, grow an independent network of policy scholars, and promote the RSC brand at off‑site events.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Holder of a Master’s degree in a related discipline with the degree conferred by the start of the position.
  • At least 3 years of direct experience in policy analysis and research methods, including data analytics, economics, statistics, and legal analysis.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Applied experience using statistical and programming languages such as Python and R.
  • Experience with literature reviews, academic writing, statistics/econometrics, or program evaluation.
  • Demonstrated interest in economics, regulatory policy, or administrative law.
  • Experience (including internships) working in state or local government, industry associations, Capitol Hill, or contract research firms.
  • Exceptional writing skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
  • Self‑starter who can work independently on assigned tasks.
