Requirements Job Overview The Metabolomics Shared Resource (MSR) at Georgetown University Medical Center needs a Bioinformatics Scientist to work in a highly collaborative environment on experimental design of metabolomics studies and concomitant data analysis. This is a request for hiring a bioinformatics scientist to support pre and post processing of LC-MS data generated in the Metabolomics Shared Resource. Dr. Yoel Araujo Sanchez, previous occupant of this position was placed on administrative leave followed by termination effective September 04, 2026 owing to non-compliance (The termination letter is attached for reference).

The incoming candidate will thus fill an existing position which is fully budgeted in the approved FY 27 MSR Budget. Specifically, the candidate will provide bioinformatics support for the analytical design for an array of metabolomics studies including molecular profiling, multiple reaction monitoring based targeted quantitation. The candidate will also assist in developing pipeline for metabolic model development, modelling, stoichiometric analysis of metabolic flux.

Successful candidate will design experiments in collaboration with wet-lab scientists and integrate experimental data including transcriptomics, proteomics, metabolomics (including stable isotope based in vitro and in vivo metabolomics) and mass spectrometry-based profiling. Of note, the overall chargeback revenue target for MSR in FY27 has been set at $ 1M; towards this end, the Merabolomics Shared Resource has already recorded revenue of approximately $487,000 as of August 31, 2026.

However, even as we generate data for these large consortium level projects; there is an urgent need for a full time bioinformatician for performing QC, data integrity checks, batch corrections, data normalizations and other associated pre and post processing before data can be handed over to Principal Investigators and/or uploaded to centralized data repositories.

Hence, this is a request for filling an existing vacant position to support big data analysis capabilities for multiple federally funded projects that are supported by the metabolomics shared resource. As explained in the justification, based on addition of new instruments including Bruker timsTOF, 7500 QTrap mass spectrometer, NMR and Seahorse XF96 cellular analyzer and the urgent and critical need to strengthen the informatics and data analysis capabilities of the core facility, we have expanded and added new set of duties to the revised job description.

Taken together, these additions warrant a full-time position and commensurate salary for hiring qualified and competent candidates.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Process raw LC-MS and GC-MS data using a well-defined analytical platform and deliver this in a format ready for further statistical analysis either by the collaborator or by the Metabolomics Core as appropriate.

Streamline and develop bioinformatics pipelines for data pre and post-processing. This would include data integrity checks and batch normalization.

Perform advanced statistical and bioinformatics analyses of high dimensional datasets including…
