Lead Cook – Job Description

The Lead Cook is responsible for leading kitchen operations during assigned shifts while ensuring high standards of food quality, consistency, cleanliness, and efficiency. This role supports the Chef and Kitchen Management by supervising line staff, coordinating food preparation, and maintaining all food safety and sanitation standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and supervise kitchen staff during service to ensure smooth and timely food production
  • Prepare and cook menu items according to recipes, portion control, and quality standards
  • Ensure all food is presented consistently and meets company and brand expectations
  • Assign daily prep tasks and monitor completion of side work
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe kitchen environment at all times
  • Enforce food safety, sanitation, and health department regulations (HACCP standards)
  • Monitor food inventory, assist with ordering, and minimize waste
  • Train, coach, and support cooks and kitchen staff
  • Communicate effectively with front-of-house and management teams
  • Address and resolve kitchen issues promptly during shifts
  • Assist with menu execution, special events, and VIP service when needed
Qualifications & Skills
  • Proven experience as a line cook or lead cook in a fast-paced kitchen
  • Strong leadership and teamwork skills
  • Solid knowledge of cooking techniques, kitchen equipment, and food safety
  • Ability to multitask, stay organized, and perform well under pressure
  • Excellent time management and communication skills
  • Flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand for extended periods
  • Lift up to 50 lbs
  • Work in a hot, fast-paced environment
