Summary
The incumbent is responsible for the development, management, coordination, and implementation of the Geographic Information System (GIS) for one or more parks. The position is open to the first 75 applicants or until 02/23/2026

The major duties of the position Geographer/Biologist/Physical Scientist/Cartographer include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Document, analyze, and integrate the management of natural and cultural resources using GIS.
- Prepare GIS plans, data dictionaries, project proposals, and GIS‑related contract and agreement specifications.
- Develop user interface for data input.
- Collect GIS data in field.
- Prepare written documents on GIS matters.
- U.S. Citizenship required.
- Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication.
- Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males.
- Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program.
- You will be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties; a valid driver's license is required. You will be required to submit a Motor Vehicle Operator's License and Driving Record.
- You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided.
All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-02/23/2026-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the resume must reflect full and/or part‑time or total number of hours worked (i.e., work 40+ hours a week, rather than indicating full‑time).
If part‑time, the hours must be annotated to be able to pro‑rate the amount of qualified specialized experience.

Geographer 0150Degree: Geography; or related physical or social science such as geology, meteorology, economics, statistics, sociology, anthropology, political science, history, cartography, computer science, urban studies, or planning that included at least 24 semester hours in geography or related fields.
Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major in geography, or a related field that included at least 24 semester hours in geography or related fields, as shown above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
Biologist 0401Degree: Biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.
Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
Physical Scientist 1301Degree: Physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics.
Combination of education and experience: Education equivalent to one of the majors shown above that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
Cartographer 1370Degree: Cartography; or a major that included or was supplemented by at least 30 semester hours in cartography and/or directly related science, and related mathematics. Such coursework includes, but is not limited to, cartography, astronomy, geodesy, photogrammetry, physical and geological oceanography, computer science, land surveying, geophysics, physical geography, and remote sensing.
