Job Overview
The Division of Safety and Operations aims to provide a safe and secure campus through best‑in‑class technology and infrastructure, proactive assessment, and a caring team of professionals dedicated to upholding the university’s values with the highest degree of conscientiousness.
Reporting to the SOC Manager, the Police Dispatcher is responsible for operating the Security Operations Center for the GW Campus Safety Team. The core responsibilities of this role are to maintain and monitor communication with university police officers via radio and telephone, monitor emergency telephone lines and fire, intrusion, and panic alarms throughout the campus, evaluate the severity of transmissions and alarms and take appropriate action in both emergency and non‑emergency situations, and dispatch officers to incidents, alarms, requests for assistance, and emergencies.
This position will also complete the blotter of campus events, coordinate with local district forces such as the District of Columbia Fire and Police Departments, and contact members of the Campus Safety Team when necessary. Additionally, the dispatcher will monitor the video surveillance system and provide general campus information to the public. The role may require staying at the communications center past usual shifts during emergencies.
Responsibilities- Complete necessary certification and ongoing training, including PST, EMD, and CPR.
- Direct calls to appropriate emergency response personnel.
- Dispatch officers to incidents, alarms, and requests for assistance or service on campus.
- Dispatch campus ambulance crews for medical emergencies both on and off campus.
- Monitor alarms from campus facilities and the GW Guardian software.
- Utilize specific law‑enforcement systems that require a background check.
- Perform other related duties as assigned (per the collective bargaining agreement).
Dispatcher:
- High school diploma or GED plus 1 year of relevant professional experience, or a Bachelor's degree or higher in a related field (degree must be conferred by the start date).
- Equivalency may be considered based on education, training, and experience.
Senior Dispatcher:
- High school diploma or GED plus 3 years of relevant professional experience.

PayHiring Range: $30.66 per hour.

Rotating shifts;
Full‑time, 40 hours per week; essential onsite.
