Job Title
This position is located in the United States Capitol Police (USCP), Office of the Assistant Chief of Police for Uniformed Operations, Command and Coordination Bureau, Command Division, Communications Section.
The Communications Section provides operational support to all the USCP campus and the Congressional community through a Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) radio system, answering 911 emergency calls from staff members, and monitoring the Close Circuit Television (CCTV) system.
The incumbent of this position is the first line of defense for USCP field officers, USCP personnel, and requests for emergency services. Is also responsible for monitoring USCP security alarms, access control, and video security systems within the Capitol Complex.
Major duties include, but are not limited to the following:
- Utilizes a multi-channel radio and generated system to monitor alarms and cameras.
- Evaluates and prioritizes incoming telephone calls received on multiple phone lines. Determines phone call urgency and the need for dispatching police, fire, towing, and medical responses using the CAD system, telephones, multi-channel radios, telecommunication devices for the deaf, numerous law enforcement and agency databases, and automated map systems.
- Communicates with Department employees, other law enforcement and criminal justice agencies, emergency service providers, the Congressional community, and the general public to obtain and disseminate information.
- Inputs, updates, requests, transmits, and queries information from various sources to maintain accurate records or to access databases for information, warrant checks, intelligence, and/or driver's license and vehicle registration checks.
- Monitors all alarms, access control, and video security systems in the USCP Communication Center. Operates and monitors intrusion detection, access control, Members' duress, digital video, associated CCTV and assessment systems, and related security equipment to provide area and visitor surveillance assessments.
- Maintains security watch and safeguards covered areas by viewing and operating the CCTV. Monitors CRT/graphic screens to examine and respond to control alarms.
