Description
The George, a newly renovated residential community in Washington, D.C., is seeking an experienced Maintenance Technician to join our on‑site operations team. This role is responsible for maintaining the property’s mechanical systems, residential units, common areas, and overall curb appeal while ensuring a safe and well‑presented living environment for residents.
This is a hands‑on position requiring strong technical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to respond to emergencies and on‑call situations as needed.
Key Responsibilities- Complete service requests and work orders for residential units and common areas
- Perform preventative maintenance on building systems and household appliances
- Troubleshoot and repair HVAC, plumbing, electrical systems, appliances, and general building components
- Maintain property grounds and exterior cleanliness
- Support apartment turnover processes in coordination with management
- Oversee and verify third‑party vendor work quality on site
- Maintain inventory and order necessary maintenance supplies
- Respond to building emergencies (flooding, fire, mechanical failure, etc.)
- Participate in on‑call rotation as needed
Minimum Qualifications
- 2+ years of building maintenance experience in a multi‑unit, residential, or student housing environment
- Strong working knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, appliances, and general repair
- EPA I & II certification required (HVAC certification strongly preferred)
- Technical or vocational schooling in HVAC or related field preferred
- Ability to troubleshoot and repair building systems independently
- Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office and Windows systems
- Strong attention to detail
- Ability to prioritize and manage tasks in a fast‑paced environment
- Self‑motivated with the ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Professional communication skills
- Ability to build effective working relationships
- Ability to stand, walk, climb stairs and ladders for extended periods
- Lift and move up to 50 lbs. without assistance (more with assistance)
Work in confined spaces and at heights as needed - Comfortable working indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions
- Exposure to dust, dirt, chemicals, and equipment noise
