POSITION SUMMARY
Blue Drop seeks a skilled and reliable Part-Time Diesel Field Mechanic to provide ongoing maintenance and repair support for heavy equipment and fleet vehicles at the Blue Plains Wastewater Treatment Plant (Washington, DC). This role ensures the safe, efficient, and uninterrupted operation of equipment critical to Bloom’s production and distribution operations.
The position guarantees one full day per week of paid work and may require occasional additional availability (up to two days per week total) depending on operational needs. The ideal candidate is experienced, self-directed, and equipped with their own professional-grade tools.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Equipment Diagnosis and Repair- Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues on diesel-powered equipment
- Perform field repairs to minimize equipment downtime
- Replace hydraulic hoses, belts, and worn mechanical components
- Repair or replace air, oil, and fuel filters
- Address minor engine, hydraulic, and driveline issues
- Conduct routine preventative maintenance on fleet equipment
- Perform oil and fluid changes
- Inspect machines for wear, leaks, and safety concerns
- Maintain service records and communicate needed repairs or parts purchasing
- Royer screener
- Three loaders
- One skid steer
- One dump truck
- Backhus windrow turner
- Clean and maintain equipment
- Ensure machines are operating safely and efficiently
- Advise management on anticipated repair needs, replacement timelines and parts purchasing
- Minimum 3–5 years’ experience working as a diesel mechanic, heavy equipment mechanic, or related role
- Demonstrated experience servicing loaders, skid steers, dump trucks, or similar equipment
- Experience with hydraulic systems troubleshooting and hose replacement
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Must supply own professional mechanic tools
- Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills
- Reliable transportation to Blue Plains Wastewater Treatment Plant
- OSHA/safety knowledge preferred
- Experience working in industrial or municipal settings
- Familiarity with Royer equipment or similar shredders/screeners
- Ability to perform light welding or fabrication (optional but beneficial)
- CDL (not required but advantageous)
