The Skilled Laborer Civil is responsible for performing construction maintenance tasks of a skilled nature: finishing concrete, laying bricks and blocks, and operating vehicles and equipment.
Duties and Responsibilities:- Perform skilled and semi-skilled manual labor on civil construction projects,
- Assist with roadway, utility, drainage, excavation, grading, and concrete operations,
- Operate hand tools, power tools, and small equipment safely and efficiently,
- Support heavy equipment operators and skilled trades as directed,
- Load, unload, and transport materials, tools, and equipment,
- Set up, maintain, and break down work zones and traffic control devices as required,
- Perform basic concrete work including forming, pouring, and finishing support,
- Follow project plans, specifications, and supervisor instructions,
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe worksite,
- Adhere to all company safety policies and OSHA regulations,
- May be required to work extended hours including evenings, nights, and weekends,
- Additional duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or equivalent required,
- Must have 2+years of experience working in heavy highway construction,
- Complete understanding of OSHA and company safety requirements,
- Ability to measure accurately and read specifications,
- Clean driving record is a plus,
- Good communication skills,
- Knowledge of the materials and equipment used in general street maintenance and construction work,
- Knowledge of the methods and practices of pouring and finishing concrete,
- OSHA 10 and OSHA 30 preferred,
- Flagger License desired,
- Must be able to successfully pass a background and drug screening.
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds continuously throughout the workday,
- Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, reach, squat, and twist, throughout the workday,
- This includes frequently walking on sloped ground and slippery and uneven surfaces,
- This position requires the ability to stand for extended periods of time and the constant use of hands and arms,
- This job requires the ability to see, whether naturally or with vision correction tools (e.g., glasses, contact lenses),
- Performing strenuous work for extended periods in varying temperatures, humidity, wind, and other inclement weather conditions,
- Work may be performed in environments with exposure to extremely hot materials, fuel, fumes, vapors, dust, grease and oils, as well as loud and/or constant noise and moving equipment.
