Supervisory Social Worker

This position is in the Department of Aging and Community Living (DACL). The mission of DACL is to advocate, plan, implement, and monitor programs in health, education, and social services which promote longevity, independence, dignity, and choice for the city’s older adults (ages 60 years or older), people with disabilities (ages 18-59 years), and caregivers.

The incumbent works as a Supervisory Social Worker overseeing and managing the Community Transition Program/team responsible for transitioning district seniors from long term care facilities back to the community.

Works as a Supervisory Social Worker responsible for supervising the full range of direct professional social work services provided by a team of social workers to seniors (60+) and adult with disabilities (18-59) in the District of Columbia, to include the areas of abuse and neglect. Plans, organizes, supervises and administers the work. Assign cases to social workers and monitors service delivery for staff compliance with statutory guidelines, regulations and DACL policies and procedures, to effect remediation of abuse and neglect problems.

Coordinates and monitors the allocation of services, incentives and resources.

Develops and implements an overall case management work plan consistent with Program objectives to plan and evaluate daily operations. Develops regular and special statistical, qualitative and quantitative reports, which assess casework and other services related data. Performs the full range of supervisory responsibilities, to include evaluation of employee performance, making recommendations to the Program Manager regarding the selection of new employees and disciplinary action.

Administers leave and attendance, investigate complaints, provide training and guidance to staff and conduct supervisory conferences to develop specialized resources for the client population. Monitors and supports the Social Worker' activities; attends court hearings, administrative reviews and other meetings to provide information. Attend professional meetings and seminars to keep abreast of most recent social work advances. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Degree:
Social Work. Must fulfill all the requirements for the master’s degree in social work in a school accredited by the Council on Social Work Education.

Specialized

Experience:

Specialized experience is experience which is directly related to the position and has equipped the individual with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. To be creditable, the incumbent must possessat least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression.

Experience includes providing home and community-based services, community transition services and work that provided the knowledge of the concepts, principles, and practices of public health programs such as Medicare and Medicaid, and home and community-based service delivery.

Prior supervisory/management experience is preferred.

The incumbent must be a D.C. Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW), a D.C. licensed Independent Social Worker or Graduate Social Worker.

Must have a valid driver’s license.

Some work is performed in a normal office setting, and in the community. Work in the community may include private homes and apartments, offices, institutions, meetings with providers, and professional training sites. The work also requires incumbent to drive to sites/visits and walking in the community to various locations.
