Senior Shopify Plus Developer

We are seeking a Senior Shopify Plus Developer to lead the design, implementation and maintenance of high-performance Shopify Plus storefronts and custom platform integrations. This role combines full stack development, theme work (including Shopify Horizon), and advanced platform extensibility (Shopify Functions) to deliver scalable, conversion focused commerce experiences. You will collaborate with product, design and marketing teams, mentor engineers, and drive technical best practices for the Shopify ecosystem.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead end-to-end development of Shopify Plus storefronts, from architecture and data modeling to deployment and monitoring.
• Design, build and maintain custom Shopify apps and integrations using Shopify Admin and Storefront APIs (REST and GraphQL).
• Create, extend and optimize Shopify Functions to implement custom discount, payments and cart logic, delivering performant, maintainable web based extensions.
• Develop and maintain storefront themes with a focus on Shopify Horizon theme development and component architecture, ensuring accessibility and conversion optimization.
• Implement full stack solutions (frontend and backend) using modern stacks (Type Script/Node, React, or equivalent), and integrate third-party services such as PIMs, ERPs, payment providers, and analytics.
• Own performance, scalability and SEO improvements for high traffic commerce sites; implement caching, code splitting, and instrumentation for observability.
• Establish and maintain CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, code review practices, and release processes for Shopify projects.
• Troubleshoot production issues, perform root cause analysis, and provide timely fixes and postmortems.
• Mentor and coach junior and midlevel engineers; contribute to hiring, planning and technical roadmaps.
• Document architecture, development patterns and platform decisions; keep the team current with Shopify platform changes and best practices.

Qualifications

• 5+ years professional web development experience with demonstrable full stack projects.
• 3+ years hands on experience building and launching Shopify and Shopify Plus stores.
• Practical experience creating Shopify Functions (Web Assembly/Rust or JavaScript/Type Script implementations) and extending platform behavior.
• Proven experience building themes and components; direct experience with Shopify Horizon theme development is highly desirable.
• Strong knowledge of Liquid templating and modern frontend frameworks (React, Type Script) and familiarity with backend frameworks (Node.js, Express, or similar).
• Experience integrating with external systems via REST/GraphQL APIs and building reliable data flows (PIM/ERP/CRM/middleware).
• Familiarity with Shopify CLI, app extensibility patterns, OAuth, webhooks, and common ecommerce concerns (payments, tax, fulfillment).
• Solid testing, debugging and CI/CD skills (unit/integration tests, automated deployments, Git workflows).
• Excellent communication, cross functional collaboration and mentoring skills; ability to translate business needs into technical solutions.
• Bachelors degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience preferred; portfolio of Shopify Plus projects or public code samples a plus.
