Backend Software Engineer (Senior)

The Senior Backend Software Engineer will be responsible for the analysis, design, and development of mission-critical, cloud-native enterprise services for a leading passenger rail transportation client. This role involves designing and building robust, high-performance systems using Java 17, Spring Boot, and extensive AWS services. The engineer will lead technical analysis for complex projects, develop event-driven backend services for EDI transactions, and provide ongoing support and problem resolution.

This position requires a strong blend of architectural thinking, hands-on development, and problem-solving skills to ensure the reliability and scalability of core transportation systems.

• Lead technical analysis and design for large-scale IT projects, collaborating with clients and stakeholders to define business requirements and priorities.
• Design, develop, test, and implement highly available and performant cloud-native backend services, with a focus on event-driven architectures and EDI transactions.
• Conduct detailed business analysis to architect and design technical solutions that align with functional and technical requirements.
• Provide ongoing production support and problem resolution for existing applications, ensuring system reliability and performance.
• Develop and maintain comprehensive technical documentation for all projects and services.
• Contribute to the continuous improvement of CI/CD pipelines using tools like Jenkins, Code Pipeline, and Cloud Formation.
• Utilize automated testing frameworks (e.g., Junit, Mockito, Cucumber, Playwright) to ensure code quality and system integrity.

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Systems Engineering, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and 7+ years of relevant experience.
• Technical Expertise:
  Proficiency in Java 17, Spring Boot, and Maven.

  Experience:
  
  Strong hands-on experience with AWS integrations and cloud-native development using services such as ECS, Event Bridge, S3, Lambda, SQS, SNS, API Gateway, and RDS/Aurora.
• CI/CD:
  Proven experience with CI/CD pipelines and tools including Jenkins, Code Pipeline, and Cloud Formation.
• Testing & Methodology:
  Solid experience with automated testing frameworks and tools like Junit, Mockito, and Cucumber. Clear understanding of the Twelve-Factor Application Methodology.
• Security:
  Knowledge of application security vulnerabilities and mitigation techniques.
• Soft Skills:
  
  Excellent oral and written communication skills alongside strong analytical and troubleshooting capabilities.

• AWS Certified Developer – Associate or higher.
• Experience with Angular for front-end development.
• Knowledge of Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) systems and event-driven architectures.
• Experience with AWS CDK and Infrastructure as Code (IaC).
