OverviewThe Industrial Output (IO) section within the Federal Reserve Board’s Division of Research and Statistics seeks a Senior Applications Developer to modernize the technical infrastructure for the Board's monthly G.17 statistical release on industrial production and capacity utilization (IP/CU). This role involves collaborating with the IO team and contractors to transition legacy FAME software to modern technologies while maintaining reliable monthly production.
Responsibilities- Develop and maintain robust infrastructure to support the G.17 release, replacing legacy FAME software.
- Modernize data and code infrastructure using modern languages (R, Python) and database systems (SQL-based systems, DuckDB).
- Collaborate closely with the IO team, contractors, Board IT, and Public Information Office on file transfers, validation, and deployment.
- Design, document, test, debug, and refine software components to meet production requirements.
- Apply software development life cycle (SDLC) practices, formal specifications, data flow diagrams, and CASE tools.
- Manage software configuration, review existing programs, and implement efficiency improvements.
- Communicate design concepts and status to stakeholders and team members.
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, physics, economics, or related field; at least seven years of programming/analyst experience.
- Strong programming skills in R or Python; FAME experience is a plus.
- Experience with database systems and data structures.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Reliable, efficient, and able to work on time‑sensitive projects independently or in a team.
- Demonstrated analytical and problem‑solving skills; experience with system analysis, design, and implementation.
- Knowledge of SDLC, software configuration management, and documentation practices.
- Ability to develop block diagrams, logic flow charts, and functional specifications.
On-site at FRB locations, Washington, DC. Telework may be allowed if needed.
