Overview

Girl Trek is a grassroots, movement-building organization and the largest nonprofit focused on Black women’s health in the nation. With a membership of 1.2 million and counting, a popular podcast with close to 2M downloads, and a volunteer infrastructure serving thousands of Black communities, Girl Trek’s influence is substantial.

Girl Trek is seeking a motivated and talented Software Engineer to join our technology team. You will be responsible for maintaining and building software to support our mission and growth.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain and improve our mobile application, GirlTREK Underground, built with Flutter.
  • Develop and maintain microsites to support various strategic initiatives, likely using Elemental.
  • Co-create and prototype concepts that emerge from our collaborative and ambitious team.
  • Maintain and improve our existing mobile app built with Flutter and troubleshoot issues reported by users.
  • Collaborate with designers and product managers to ensure the app meets design specifications and user needs.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including other developers, designers, and stakeholders, to understand project requirements and deliver high-quality solutions.
  • Participate in code reviews and provide constructive feedback to peers; stay up-to-date with the latest industry trends and technologies.
  • Represent Girl Trek online and at community events as a member of the national staff; participate in walks and related Girl Trek events; serve as an ambassador for Girl Trek online and in person.
Who You Are Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience with Flutter and Dart for mobile app development.
  • Familiarity with web development technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript).
  • Basic understanding of responsive design principles.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Elemental or similar microsite building tools.
  • Knowledge of version control systems, particularly Git.
  • Understanding of Agile development methodologies.
  • Familiarity with UI/UX design principles.

Compensation:
Each role is benchmarked using national data and considers compensatory factors such as the expectations of the role and the required qualifications for the role. The candidate’s final compensation package is determined once the interview is concluded and accounts for the compensatory factors listed above, in addition to experience and location. The salary range for this role is $100,000 - $130,000.
