Position Summary

The Database Tech Lead provides technical leadership for the platform's data engineering and database development activities within a Sprint Team supporting a large-scale federal cloud platform. This role is responsible for guiding database design, performance optimization, data architecture implementation, and engineering best practices while mentoring developers and ensuring the team's work aligns with the overall AWS cloud architecture. Working closely with Product Owners, Scrum Masters, architects, and application developers, the Database Tech Lead helps deliver secure, scalable, high-performance data solutions while promoting the effective use of AI-assisted software development tools throughout the development lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide day-to-day technical leadership for the database development team and establish engineering best practices.
  • Design and review database schemas, data structures, and implementation approaches supporting cloud-native applications.
  • Lead database code reviews and ensure high standards for quality, performance, maintainability, and security.
  • Guide developers in implementing efficient SQL, data access patterns, and database optimization techniques.
  • Collaborate with Product Owners, Scrum Masters, architects, and application developers to deliver Sprint objectives.
  • Translate enterprise architecture standards into practical database implementation decisions.
  • Resolve technical issues involving database performance, integration, and scalability.
  • Mentor database developers and support their technical growth through coaching and peer reviews.
  • Drive adoption of AI-assisted development tools to improve engineering productivity and code quality.
  • Coordinate with other technical teams to ensure seamless integration across the platform.
Minimum Experience
  • 8+ years of software engineering experience, including technical leadership responsibilities.
  • Experience leading database development activities within Agile software development teams.
  • Experience developing cloud-based applications using AWS services.
  • Experience participating in code reviews, technical mentoring, and engineering governance.
Mandatory Skills
