Lead Software Developer – CPQ
As a Lead Software Developer at Ordway Labs, you will provide technical leadership in designing, developing, and scaling our billing and finance platform. You will be responsible not only for delivering high-quality software but also for guiding architectural decisions, mentoring engineers, and ensuring engineering best practices across the team.
This role requires a strong hands-on developer who can balance coding, technical decision-making, and team leadership, while collaborating closely with product, design, and business stakeholders.

Job Responsibilities
Software Development & Architecture
- Design, develop, and maintain high-performance, scalable, and secure software solutions.
- Own and drive technical design and architecture decisions aligned with long-term platform goals.
- Ensure code quality through hands-on development, code reviews, and adherence to best practices.
- Identify and resolve complex technical issues related to performance, scalability, and reliability.
- Champion clean, maintainable, and testable code across the codebase.
- Work closely with Product Managers, Designers, QA, and other stakeholders to translate business requirements into robust technical solutions.
- Participate actively in agile ceremonies including sprint planning, stand-ups, reviews, and retrospectives.
- Help break down requirements into well-defined tasks and ensure timely and high-quality delivery.
- Communicate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical.
- Act as a technical point of contact for the development team.
- Mentor and coach senior and junior developers, fostering a culture of learning and excellence.
- Lead technical discussions, design reviews, and architectural planning sessions.
- Guide the team in adopting new technologies, frameworks, and engineering practices where appropriate.
- Take ownership of complex, cross-functional technical initiatives and drive them to completion.
- Knowledge of Quote to Cash, CPQ, Deal Desk functionality
- Developed and delivered enterprise grade pricing, quoting systems
- Knowledge of sales processes, multi currency, product catalog, bundling and
- rules related to that
- Continuously improve development workflows, tooling, and engineering processes.
- Promote best practices in testing, documentation, CI/CD, and Dev Ops.
- Stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends, applying them pragmatically to improve the platform.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
- 7+ years of professional software development experience, with at least 2+ years in a technical lead or senior ownership role.
- Strong hands-on experience with Ruby on Rails and at least one other language such as Java, Python, or JavaScript.
- Experience with modern web frameworks and technologies (e.g., React, Angular, Spring, Django).
- Solid understanding of database design and development (SQL and No
SQL). - Experience working with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
- Familiarity with containerization and orchestration tools (Docker, Kubernetes).
- Experience working with scalable systems like Kafka
- Deep understanding of LLMs (transformers, tokenization, context windows, embeddings)
- Prompt engineering — system prompts, few-shot, chain-of-thought, structured outputs
- RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) pipelines
- Fine-tuning and RLHF concepts (not always hands-on, but expected knowledge)
- Evaluation design — building evals, benchmarks, and quality metrics
- Shipped production AI features or agents
- Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ownership mindset.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and leadership skills.
- Experience in fintech, Quote to Cash or CPQ systems.
- Strong understanding of microservices architecture and distributed systems.
- Experience with Dev Ops practices, CI/CD pipelines, and production monitoring.
- Prior experience scaling SaaS platforms or working in high-growth environments.
