Systems Engineering Services is seeking an AI Engineer based in the Washington DC area for a Hybrid role, 3 days in office in downtown DC a week.

We are seeking a hands on AI Engineer to design and implement AI enabled software engineering solutions that accelerate the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) through specification driven development and agentic workflows
.

This role will focus on transforming business requirements into machine readable specifications that drive downstream automation of code, testing, and deployment, improving engineering velocity, quality, and traceability.

• Translate business requirements into structured, machine, readable specifications
• Implement spec as source of truth frameworks driving code, test, and workflow generation
• Build integration across specs, agents, repositories, CI/CD pipelines

• SDLC Automation & Acceleration
• Design AI enabled workflows across discovery, build, test, and deployment phases
• Automate generation of:
• Code artifacts
• Test cases and validation logic
• Technical documentation
• Improve SDLC efficiency through AI driven orchestration and reusable knowledge bases
• Agentic Engineering & Workflow Design
• Design and implement AI agents and multi agent systems for development tasks
• Build orchestration layers ( harness ) to ensure:
• Repeatability
• Consistency
• Governance across teams
• Enable persona-based workflows (developer, reviewer, tester)
• AI Application & Platform Engineering
• Develop AI powered developer tools, including:
• Code generation assistants
• Test automation agents
• Knowledge retrieval systems (RAG)
• Integrate AI systems with enterprise platforms, APIs, and data pipelines
• Deploy scalable solutions in cloud environments (e.g., AWS)
• Testing, Validation & Governance
• Implement automated validation frameworks to ensure outputs align with specifications
• Design guardrails for:
• Accuracy
• Security
• Compliance
• Monitor AI systems for reliability, cost, and performance

• Bachelor s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, or related field
• 3+ years of experience in:
• Software engineering, AI/ML engineering, or related roles
• Strong programming skills (Python preferred)
• Experience with:
• CI/CD pipelines, Git, APIs
• Cloud platforms (AWS preferred)
• Automated testing frameworks
• Familiarity with LLM frameworks, prompt engineering, and AI tooling
