LS Technologies, a Tetra Tech company, is seeking a highly skilled System Engineer to serve as the Software Development Engineer to support the design, development, integration, deployment, and sustainment of software applications and services supporting a modern cloud-based platform for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The engineer will work as part of a multidisciplinary cloud engineering and Dev Sec Ops team responsible for delivering secure, scalable, resilient, and highly available capabilities that support FAA mission and enterprise systems.
Job Duties & Responsibilities - Essential Job Functions may include, but are not limited to, the following- Design, develop, test, integrate, deploy, and maintain software applications and cloud-native services supporting FAA mission systems.
- Develop scalable and maintainable applications using modern programming languages, frameworks, APIs, and software development practices.
- Develop and integrate RESTful APIs and microservices, backend services, and cloud-based applications.
- Build software designed to operate within distributed and highly available cloud environments.
- Develop containerized applications using technologies such as Docker/OCI containers and Kubernetes/Open Shift.
- Support application deployment and lifecycle management through CI/CD and Dev Sec Ops pipelines.
- Develop automated build, test, deployment, and release processes to improve software delivery and operational reliability.
- Integrate applications with cloud infrastructure, databases, messaging platforms, identity services, monitoring tools, and other enterprise services.
- Implement automated unit, integration, functional, and performance testing.
- Troubleshoot application, integration, performance, and deployment issues across development, test, and production environments.
- Participate in code reviews and contribute to software engineering standards, coding standards, and development best practices.
- Develop reusable software components, libraries, APIs, and automation that can be leveraged across the FAA cloud platform.
- Implement application logging, monitoring, metrics, alerting, and operational telemetry.
- Apply secure software development practices throughout the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC).
- Address vulnerabilities and software security findings in coordination with cybersecurity and cloud security teams.
- Support implementation of Dev Sec Ops , Infrastructure as Code (IaC), automated security testing, and continuous compliance capabilities.
- Develop software that supports FAA security, availability, reliability, performance, and maintainability requirements.
- Assist with cloud platform modernization and migration of legacy applications to cloud-native architectures.
- Participate in technical design sessions, architecture reviews, sprint planning, demonstrations, and other Agile activities.
- Develop and maintain technical documentation, system designs, interface specifications, test plans, and operational procedures.
- Collaborate with other engineering teams to resolve cross-platform dependencies and integration issues.
- Support production deployments and provide troubleshooting and engineering support for mission-critical applications.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of the FAA cloud platform, development processes, automation, and engineering practices.
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, Engineering, or related technical discipline, or equivalent experience.
- 5+ years of professional software development experience, preferably in enterprise, cloud, or federal environments.
- Experience developing and deploying applications in AWS or another major cloud platform.
- Experience developing REST APIs and integrating enterprise systems.
- Experience with Git-based source control and modern software development workflows.
- Experience with CI/CD and Dev Sec Ops concepts.
- Experience developing or supporting containerized applications.
- Working knowledge of Docker/OCI containers and Kubernetes or Open Shift.
- Experience with Agile/Scrum software development methodologies.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, communication, and technical documentation skills

40 - Travel: 20%
- Extended Computer Use:
Regular and prolonged periods of working at a computer terminal.
Lifting and Carrying:
Occasional lifting of equipment and materials weighing up to 50 pounds may be required during installations.
- Dexterity:
Manual dexterity and visual acuity to operate computer equipment, troubleshoot issues, and perform tasks requiring precision.
Sitting/Standing:
Both prolonged sitting and occasional standing may be required for troubleshooting and attending to system issues.
