Senior Director of Engineering, AI Agents

Role overview

Own the engineering direction for a production AI agent platform used in customer-facing, revenue-critical workflows. This senior leadership role combines zero-to-one product development with the operational discipline required to scale autonomous systems across large volumes of conversations. You will shape the architecture, grow the engineering organization, and establish the evaluation, safety, reliability, and cost practices needed for continued expansion.

• Set the technical architecture and roadmap for agent orchestration, tool use, memory, reasoning, and workflow execution.
• Lead and grow engineers building and operating production agent systems while remaining engaged in design, code, and incident response.
• Build evaluation infrastructure, quality metrics, feedback loops, and regression detection for non-deterministic software.
• Drive new agent capabilities from initial concept through production hardening for reliability, latency, and cost.
• Translate business outcomes such as response time, conversion, appointments, and recovered revenue into technical priorities.
• Partner with infrastructure and customer-facing teams on observability, model routing, fallback behavior, guardrails, and field feedback.

• 10+ years of software engineering experience, including substantial engineering leadership scope.
• Direct experience building and operating production LLM-powered or agentic systems serving real users at meaningful scale.
• Strong knowledge of applied AI architecture, including orchestration, function calling, retrieval-augmented generation, context management, and latency/cost/quality trade-offs.
• Experience measuring agent quality, catching regressions, and making responsible release decisions.
• A record of leading both early-stage builds and the hardening of systems under production load.
• Strong cross-functional communication and hands-on familiarity with modern AI coding tools.

Experience with customer-facing revenue workflows, voice or real-time multimodal AI, high-growth SaaS or vertical software, and SMB-focused products. A thoughtful perspective on the rapidly changing agentic AI landscape is also valued.
