Job Description JOB OVERVIEW

The Senate Sergeant at Arms (SAA), Printing Graphics and Direct Mail (PGDM), is seeking a reliable and detail‑oriented Lead Logistics and Operations Specialist to support daily logistics functions and assist the Logistics and Operations Supervisor in coordinating warehouse and distribution activities across multiple facilities. This position plays a key role in ensuring the safe, accurate, and efficient movement of materials, equipment, and supplies in support of operational needs throughout the Capitol complex and surrounding areas.

The Lead Logistics and Operations Specialist supports the Supervisor by coordinating, scheduling, and monitoring daily work assignments to ensure smooth and efficient warehouse operations. Based primarily at the Capitol Hill location, this role also provides oversight at the Senate Support Facility (SSF) in Landover, MD, as needed. The Lead ensures that materials are properly received, inspected, and documented; inventory records are accurately maintained;

and service requests are handled promptly and professionally. Serving as a key point of contact for Senate offices and staff, the Lead helps facilitate communication, resolve logistical challenges, and uphold high standards of customer service across all supported sites.

Key responsibilities include overseeing daily warehouse activities; monitoring material staging, delivery, and inventory processes; performing safety checks and equipment inspections; coordinating with Senate offices, Committees, and Support Offices on incoming requests; and supporting the Supervisor with operational oversight, workload adjustments, and employee guidance. The Lead helps maintain accurate documentation, ensures compliance with policies and procedures, and fosters a safe and organized work environment.

Job Duties

Assists the supervisor in scheduling, coordinating, and controlling all activities of the section and overseeing personnel; plans, organizes, and reviews employees’ work; and provides feedback to the supervisor for the purpose of evaluating subordinates. Oversees and coordinates the daily operations at the warehouse, staff, materials, equipment, and supplies to ensure efficient and expeditious workflow within rules, regulations, and established deadlines; serves as a liaison by working closely with the Senate community.

Achieves high levels of customer satisfaction through excellence in receiving, identifying, and inspecting the quality of Senate materials staged and delivered to the warehouse. Maintains and performs inventories of all equipment and supplies; performs safety inspections of equipment and schedules maintenance and repair; assists the Office of Equipment branch in conducting physical inventories of office equipment in Senate offices; and identifies missing equipment.

Provides support to Senate offices; communicates with Senate staff to receive and coordinate phone, email, and paper requests; and explains the Logistics and Operations services. Other duties as assigned.

JOB SPECIFICATIONSRequired Education

High School Diploma/GED.

Required Work Experience
  • Three to five years of progressively responsible experience with modern inventory control and asset management practices and procedures.
Required Special Skills/ Knowledge
  • Knowledge of the service area’s policies and procedures, including policies and regulations set by the Senate Rules Committee.
  • Knowledge of the Senate’s financial and inventory management systems.
  • Knowledge of the operation of general office equipment, including personal computers.
